Where to go from here...Modifying DIY Latex/Foam Combo

Hey all,

Did a lot of reading here and purchased a 5" HD36 PU foam base and 2" Talalay Soft 20ILD topper from foambymail.  After sleeping on it, I feel that I'm sinking through the whole topper and that the foam underneath is too firm.  I'm not really sure where to go from here as I'm not really sure the 32ILD talalay would be all that much softer then the 36ILD PU foam if I put it underneath the 20ILD topper.  Do you think I should be putting more of the 20ILD or softer talalay (14 from SLB or elsewhere) on top or can anyone confirm that the 32ILD talalay from FBM is significantly softer than the 36ILD PU foam?

I'm 6'6" and 175 lbs.  Mainly a side sleeper, but also stomach sometimes.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Martin

For a side sleeper, I think you need to be thinking in the 3" to 4" range for your comfort layers if using latex.  By comfort layers, I'm talking about the 20ILD's and lower ILDs.  I would go an inch at a time and maybe start with another inch of 19ILD  or 14 ILD to the top.  I'm not sure that putting another inch of 32 under the 20's would help, but it could ease the transition to from the HD underneath to the 20's on top.  You may even want to go to a 28ILD (it would be more in the middle between 20 and 36).  I know this can get expensive but it will be worth it when you get there and if you only go an inch at a time, you will minimize your expense.  It certainly wouldn't hurt to put an inch of 28 under the 20s.  Now you see why people get to a 10 or 11 inch mattress.  Let us know where you end up.  You've got a good start.  You could be 2 inches from getting there.....another inch of soft (14 or 19ILD) and another inch of 28 ILD as a transition.
