Which topper should I buy
I've got a Sealy pillow-top mattress thats been hurting my hip due to inflammatory arthritis. I bought a Venus memory foam pad from Overstock to try and soften it up a little. When that didn't help much, I bought a Sensus pad to put on top of it. Now its better for my hip, but the lack of support is really bothering my back. I'm thinking of trying a latex topper from FBM to see if it helps, but I'm not sure which I should get. I was thinking of going with a one inch medium for the support and then I can layer it with an inch or two of memory foam if I need to soften it up a little. Does this sound like a good plan, or will medium be too hard on my hip? Thanks in advance for any help. Jeff |
Re: Which topper should I buy
What to do would depend on whether your mattress is new and still too firm for your hip or old and has a dip where your hip rests. Venus and Sensus foams are very similar memory foams, both good quality and not temperature sensitive, very soft. Memory foams simply sink where your heavier parts are and feel very soft around you(like whipped cream). I describe support as pushing back, or holding you up, which memory foam does not do. It simply gives to your contours, sometimes described as laying in wet cement. If your bed has a dip where your hip rests, you could try putting a folded towel UNDER THE MATTRESS where the dip is. Helps. If your bed is rather new and a dip is not the issue, simply needing more softness, you could try latex, which doesn't compress like memory foam does. I think it is pretty boingy feeling...has a lot of rebound where memory foam has none. You could try simple P/U foam and see how that works. Cheaper, lasts not as long. A cuddlebed or fiberfill topper might soften this up for you as well. I use that and like it, other than the fact that my fiberfill topper needs fluffing fairly regularly because it squishes out of my heavier parts areas. Hope this is of some help, Kait |
