    Comfort adjustment - to 24 or 28?

My input: I live close to Charlottesville, Va. Savvy Rest is nearby. They have a very cute boutique store and the warehouse is nearby, in Crozet, Va. I bought a 3" "soft" dunlop topper. It in itself is a beast. As a topper it has caused pain in places I never dreamed of. Abdomen, ribs...

    Question about FBM durability

How much will a 5" slab of LUX-R soften over time? I am a 250lbs man and I need a firm mattress for my lower back. I have been on a merry-go-round with all the bedding products I own. I have said 5" LUX-R resting on a quality platform bed (I even put pegboard over the slats for a totally...

Looking for advice on a soft latex mattress

I defer to the veterens here to help you, as I am new to latex and layering. There are a lot of sellers of the materials, and it can seem quite daunting at first. If there is a retailer near you that carries latex, by all means visit and try to get the real feel of a latex mattress. Basic...

    The "S" brands?

DaveStro wrote: You seemed to be a little confused about what is used in each brand uses as coil systems. Serta uses the continous coil which in fact is the lightest spring unit in the industry using the least amount of steel. It does have a decent design and holds up fairly well depending on...

    FBM Base core

I am using the FBM LUX-R 5" in one of my setups. It's very firm. The LUX-HQ is denser, will last longer, is I think as firm as it gets. Can't speak to your layering concepts because this is all new to me. ("R" just means regular, "HQ' high quality). LUX firmer than HD36. I would think start...

Am I Crazy to Try This?

bigdaddyk wrote: Thanks for the validation! It's good to hear that I'm not completely off my rocker! : ) I wonder if I might be misunderstanding you on this... Are you saying that you've slept on a solid 5" thick slab of 50 ILD LUX-R? If so, I am very intrigued! So much so that I...

Am I Crazy to Try This?

I like #2 better. I have the LUX-R 5" FBM and it's quite firm. So your base is good. I am thinking about getting a 3" HD36 and for you it should soften the blow. Maybe a 3" talalay might be the cherry on top. Good luck. I think you made good choices.

    The "S" brands?

Hi! I would like to add some input here as I've been thru it all I think. Serta Simmons and Sealy all make a nice mattress. I like Serta the best because of the coil architecture. Simmmons, individual springs, there is no support, they will keep sinking, no matter the gauge. Sealy, never...

Do mattresses have a break in period and become softer after a couple of months?

I think because the foam layers are weak and have compressed bringing your body directly in contact with the spring architecture. You may experience a "hammock effect" resulting in low back pain, especially if you side sleep. I'm new here so I would not suggest surgery but the same thing...

markbnh1 wrote: Fran, It may be a little bit too firm. You will find that the 32 ILD latex may push back a little too much. If so, try adding 1" of 14-19 ILD latex or maybe 1 inch of 4-5 lb memory foam. I was surprised how nice 1 inch of memory foam finished off my all latex mattress. It...

Tempur-pedic Rhapsody is soft after a year...what can I do?

Dallasgirl wrote: Hi Francis, You mean the coils will sag? Do you have a Berkeley Ergonomics mattress? If so, I am very curious of your experience! Hi Dallasgirl! No I do not have said mattress. I had a Simmons (not pocketed coils) or maybe it was a Spring Air. Anyways, it was very firm...

Tempur-pedic Rhapsody is soft after a year...what can I do?

budgy wrote: Hello Dallasgirl, Personally I think that if the pushback of all latex was too strong for you, or too harsh so to speak. Than its hard to imagine springs and latex being better. The pushback effect of latex has to do with its elasticity and resiliency. Steel is the most...

    I think the box spring

is the most important elemant in a sleep set. I meen a "real" box spring, that has springs. Foundations, steel flex, platforms, not. So much emphasis on the top, not good. I have a queen box spring that is ten years old, and will take on any inner spring firm mattress and deliver comfort...

I just ordered a DIY set from FBM and I would like any advice or opinions on my strategy. I ordered a "Lux-R foam" 5" mattress for my platform bed. Hoping it is firm. Next a 3" 32ILD talalay topper. Covers for both. I am hoping this will be a good set up. I am a 240lbs man looking to get...
