    Weirdly Sized Mattress Fitment

Depends on how much wiggle room you have with the dimensions. Is the frame size the actual dimensions or the classification? You may have room but it might be painful to put sheets on the bed. Mattdud

    Foam question post pillowtop-ectomy

Jenna. This is a good plan. 4 and 5lb are both fine. Since you like softer go with 4. Remember that it is possible that the innerspring is the real problem here. If so, you can trash it and get some high density foam to replace the height of the innerspring itself. Mattdud

insulation for waterbed to reduce heat loss

Sue. I wouldn't put anything right on or under the heater other than what the bed maker recommends. As far as putting foam around the outside that sounds like a fine idea. Problem is, most of the heat is lost through the covers. Mattdud

Lower back and ribs pain with firm/spring mattress and memory foam mattress

You seem to be making progress. Try removing and replacing the top layer of memory foam with something softer. You could also just add another 2 inches of a softer memory foam and see how that goes.

Jaehoppa. Both you and your wife are quite light and should not be scared of firm vs extra firm for the base. Flobeds has a calculator that will tell you based on height and weight and sleep style what configuration you should get. I would start from there and see how it goes. If you don't...

What firmness would 3" 40 ild blended talalay have directly on floor, in cover?

It is hard to tell but you will probably bottom out if you sleep on your side. Any kind of padding underneath would help this. Even old blankets. Mattdud

First bed build, looking to use high density foams, no memory, latex etc.

You have to decide what best meets your requirements. It does not seem that you are concerned about natural so blended would be ok for you. As far as talalay vs. dunlop. If you want it to last for a very long time go with talalay. Since this is essentially just a topper then dunlop is a fine...

First bed build, looking to use high density foams, no memory, latex etc.

Alpharalpha. I looked up the ILD of the foam you are considering. If I found the right stuff then it is around 23 ILD which is considered medium-soft in the latex world. I'm not sure how this material would feel relative to latex. Are you looking to make a mattress for less than it would...

First DIY Mattress - could use feedback

Interesting. Quote: I had a very bad experience with a thick quilted top with wool. It was very hot and because it was so thick, it totally eliminated the feel of the latex that I like so much. Because the quilted fabric also contained so much wool it made it worse....and so hot.

Latex mattress making me sick, please help!!

Khilgenberg. Sorry to hear about your problems. It is allergies. Some people are more sensitive to latex than others. When you are laying on the mattresses in the store they are covered by at least a few layers of fabric which mitigates your reaction in the store. I'm curious to know how...

What are the pros & cons of sleeping on a latex mattress? What does a latex mattress feel like?

Old post here but in general latex just feels different than memory foam or a traditional innerspring mattress. It feels strange while you fall asleep for the first week then most don't notice it at all.
