You should have headed over to McRoskey while you were in Palo Alto.  Their $3900 spring+wool+latex mattress was the absolute best mattress I test drove.  I tried latex mattresses in the bay area and I too was intresested in the Eco-Cloud.  But when I went into the store, the salesman couldn't be bothered with me even after I asked a couple of questions.  I felt like I must have had cooties and and walked out after laying on a couple of mattresses that had no prices and decsriptions like "medium" or "soft".  I was very disappointed and I took my business elsewhere.  Every other store I went into the sales people were very helpful and answered all of my questions and in fact seemed pretty knowledgeable and I felt like they wanted my business.

Mattress shopping is deceptive; many people on this forum spent lots of time test driving...

Researching 'proof' that memory foam is toxic -

Wiki - "When new, some memory foams give off a distinct chemical odor, which many people find unpleasant and some say is akin to the smell of paint. This odor decreases with airing, but some remain sensitive. Emissions from memory foam mattresses may cause more respiratory irritation than other mattresses. Mildew and house dust mites may not occur as frequently, so asthma attacks may be less frequent and severe."

Of course www.sleepworks.com and Essentia are going to say memory foam is toxic .... they sell the alternative.

Sampled Clarity Latex Bed at The Natural Mattress Store - slpngoc

Ok, so I've heard what many have said about latex on this site and very luckily, we in the SF Bay Area have a local organic mattress maker that specializes quite a bit in all natural latex beds with organic wool and cotton materials.  They have 3 Bay Area stores and manufacter in San Rafael.  This is no vapor store, they are the real deal.  Here is their website which I think you'll find very informative and a bit entertaining too.  Look up the reviews on Yelp, overwhelmingly positive  (btw, I don't work for the store in any way)  -

So, I drive to downtown Palo Alto, little busy with cars.  The gentleman in store recommends their Clarity bed which has individual coils and 3" of 97% natural latex, organic wool for fire barrier and organic cotton cover.  I tried the 'soft' bed and it...

Latex Mattress Q's - soliq

Hi, I'm new around here! Sorry for the long post..

I'm currently using a 10-15(not sure exactly, I've used it for 7) year old innerspring mattress, and it has started to sag a bit in the middle. Also, it's rather...noisey.

I'm thinking about getting a latex mattress, but I'm not sure what to buy. My budget is about $1,000 for a queen sized, preferably all latex. My initial thought was the ikea sultan erfjord, but I'm not sure about it's quality (seeing how it's from ikea). I also haven't been able to find much in the way of reviews by people who have owned it for a long period of time.

I also checked out various mattress stores, but either I'm not sure if I'm getting a good mattress (yeah, sleepys, give me a 50% discount on everything...) or it was way out of...

The other day some friends of mine told me that they recently got a new mattress and absolutely love it. They purchased an iComfort Revolution at SleepCountry Canada. This got me thinking about our own 12-14(?) yr old foam mattress, and that it might be time to replace it. It is a "Cloudrest" which I bought from a local foam place; it was a pretty high-end mattress in it's time, and has served us well. It is 8" thick, and sits on a 7" wooden box frame (which is covered in thin foam), and sits in an "Arts& Crafts" (aka "Mission") style solid oak bed frame.

After several hours of research on the internet, my head is spinning. I couldn't believe that there are forums just about mattresses!

Anyway, I...
