Ok, so I've heard what many have said about latex on this site and very luckily, we in the SF Bay Area have a local organic mattress maker that specializes quite a bit in all natural latex beds with organic wool and cotton materials.  They have 3 Bay Area stores and manufacter in San Rafael.  This is no vapor store, they are the real deal.  Here is their website which I think you'll find very informative and a bit entertaining too.  Look up the reviews on Yelp, overwhelmingly positive  (btw, I don't work for the store in any way)  -

http://naturalmattressstore.com/

So, I drive to downtown Palo Alto, little busy with cars.  The gentleman in store recommends their Clarity bed which has individual coils and 3" of 97% natural latex, organic wool for fire barrier and organic cotton cover.  I tried the 'soft' bed and it was soft, but supportive.  The display pillow was too high so I laid on my side, hand on head.  Got up and browsed a bit more.

I ventured to the medium side of the Clarity and the salesman gave me a nice pillow.  I laid there for a good 5 minutes or so.  Quite heavenly.  They call their beds Eco-Cloud.  I would say floating on a cloud is not far off this experience.  The foam was so incredibly soft yet the bed was supportive.  The absence of pressure was incredible.  Mostly what I can say is SOFT.  That was the feeling.  So gently caressing.  Sounds cheesy, but I walked out of there blown away.  I walked out because a twin XL would set me back about $1900 with tax, mattress only.  Now is not quite the time for that.  Will I forget this trial experience?  Oh heck no.

I got up off the bed and said 'Bravo' (for making such an incredible bed).  I mean, everything else I've tried so far, Tempurpedics, all the name brand spring beds, pillow tops, Stearns and Foster, blah, blah, pretty much feel hard compared to this bed.  If you're ever in the SF Bay Area, they have 3 stores.  I would HIGHLY recommend trying this place.

I was truly blown away by the sampling experience, you know where you're driving away going, what?  OMG, Man I'd love to have one of those... the price, ahhh, next time around, I'll remember it.

Check this place out.  They have all latex beds with Dunlop, Talalay, geez about 15 beds in there.  I think there lowest price twin is about $1200 and highest goes well up over $2000.  They sell a natural memory foam makers mattresses by Keetsa as well which is a SF Bay Area company.  We're spoiled here!

You should have headed over to McRoskey while you were in Palo Alto.  Their $3900 spring+wool+latex mattress was the absolute best mattress I test drove.  I tried latex mattresses in the bay area and I too was intresested in the Eco-Cloud.  But when I went into the store, the salesman couldn't be bothered with me even after I asked a couple of questions.  I felt like I must have had cooties and and walked out after laying on a couple of mattresses that had no prices and decsriptions like "medium" or "soft".  I was very disappointed and I took my business elsewhere.  Every other store I went into the sales people were very helpful and answered all of my questions and in fact seemed pretty knowledgeable and I felt like they wanted my business.

Mattress shopping is deceptive; many people on this forum spent lots of time test driving mattresses only to hate them after an entire night or week.

Keetsa mattresses are only 12% natural memory foam.  The rest is as environmentally unfriendly as other man made memory foam.  Keetsa mattresses are made in China.  Their website is a bit misleading; you have to read carefully to find the truth.

Nothing you said sounds "cheesy" to me. The only time I experienced that feeling was while testing a deluxe pillowtop mattress a month or so ago. Words cannot express the soft comfort.  I wanted it sooooo badly but after reading advice here, forced myself to say No. That's the feeling we all want!

I slept on the same ol' Sealy Posturpedic for the last 18 years and had zero idea that merely buying a new bed could be such a minefield of mistakes and choices.

Hi Doreen,

I've laid on high end Stearns and Foster's myself - 'Crowley Castle' pillowtop with all the layers of foam, some latex, memory foam.  They are good, but they are not in the same league of softness I felt on that 'Clarity' latex.  I guess tenderness might describe the feeling.  It's like the softness was like jello.  It was incredibly easy to press into, yet when I laid my 6'2" 195 lbs on it, it seemed supportive.  I was laying on my right shoulder with old injury and I'm like, geez, that's the least pressure I've ever felt.

Don't mean to brag on and on, but I know what I felt.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.  They had signs of extra firm, firm, medium, soft and small cards between the mattresses with prices.  They had prices on the headboards too.  There was an older gentleman there named John.  He was helpful and answered my questions.  He offered a better pillow.  He also opened the zipper cover to show me the inside of springs and latex.  He gave me a business card, but was not trying to push a sale.   I told him I had read the website and found it quite informative.  Of course he was happy to hear that.  It was a good experience for me.  I tried to be nice and quiet as there was another couple seriously choosing a bed.

I looked at the numbers and I would have to 1) cancel my iComfort exhange order 2) get a return / refund on my S&F mattress 3) order a Clarity, wait 2 weeks for it 4) pay about $1270 difference to get the mattress and put it on an S&F box spring.

This is a bit too much at this time.

Call me crazy, but I'm still convinced the bed that was delivered to me is not the same as the one I tested at the store, and I felt that way the minute I lay down on it at home, not after a whole night.

I've heard other people express that opinion too - that what they got was firmer or softer - so there could be something to it.

I completely lost any confidence in the sales staff after two sets of them, on two different days, told me that "Oh yes, WE have that very bed in our homes and we love it!" about two different and expensive brands.
