Absolutely fascinating thread guys!
Constant low back pain is so debilitating it is just awful.  I suffered with it for a long time myself.  I know exactly what you are talking about.  Doctors sent me to physical therapists who hurt my ligaments with their testing, and promoted back exercises to help me strengthen my back.  Did not help.
I knew in my gut it was from the bed(s) I slept on.  Went through quite a few, spent way too much money uselessly.  Felt horribly frustrated.  Where to turn...every bed promises what it does not deliver.  I was going through new beds every three months.   My husband thought I was kinda nuts, called me Princess and the Pea.  Beds didn't bother him.
Finally visited a hotel where to my great surprise, slept on a mattress that healed my back in two nights.  It was amazing.  I did...
Would you pay extra for a "good" deal? - yaddamaster

After buying a memory foam mattress last week from Costco only to discover that I and my wife hate it (too soft), I am now furiously trying to find another bed.

After considerable research and going to a half-dozen stores, I have settled on a Latex bed. Initially I had liked Dormia (Sonora and Ultimate) but have been concerned about their rep (lots of complaints with the BBB) and finally decided to go with Natura - specifically the Solace mattress ($1,970 - queen) by itself.

One store that I happened to visit had a floor model  - the Natura Solace mattress in a queen size (just what I want) - in a dual-adjustable frame. So the Solace is split at the top. The frame itself looks like a "Justabed" foundation (http://www.flobeds.com/product_details.htm?ID=7033DK). It's what Natura calls a split-top Solace on top of a Naturaflex base. The list price on this arrangement seems to...

To BillB:  Thanks for the info!  Unfortunately, I read it after I had already made a purchase.  I know what you mean about affecting the feel of the latex... I'm hoping that I don't end up disappointed with the results.  Below is an update.  Oh, by the way, I love your setup!  Great pictures, a very informative post.  I was thinking of doing something very similar, but really wanted dual adjustable firmness and a generous return policy in case I don't like it.  Keep us updated as your experience continues.

I reviewed some existing posts, and decided on a National Allergy Supply mattress encasing (the high end model, hoping I "get what I pay for").

I'm approaching the purchase of my flobed as I would any other mattress - it's function is to provide both comfort and support.  Layers can (and probably should) be added to suit the user.  I understand...

Hi Kimberly. Go here and see what you think.

This is where I always wind up when I select there 13000. I see your point regarding the link you show. However you must extrapolate the dimensions based on a picture that is different from the link I posted.

I just wish there website was a little more clear and a little bit easier to operate. I'm not accusing them of anything. And it may just be that I am a poor operator of websites, or just don't get it! But it has always seemed to me that SleepEZ would prefer to sell you the...

Thanks eagle.  I cannot have a waterbed where I am living right now.  I am sure that would be a great option temperature wise, but it is not in the cards for me a the moment.

I am not totally sure if an innerspring will solve my problem.  It is possible that the ones I have slept on the past have been cooler because they just had a thin layer of cheap low density padding.  So, they are not the most comfortable.  Upgrading to higher quality more dense foams might bring the heat issue right back.  Trial and error may be the only way to find out.

Sandman: One other thought. FloBeds also sells air beds, if memory serves. I think you need to take your concerns to them and let them work with you as they are pretty broad in their selection of bedding. On top of this Dave...

Actually, I like Tempurpedic.</p><p>I don't like the Bellasonna not because of its price point but because of the departure from their design it displays. In my former shop and personal testing I found the Bellasonna's cylindrical drum system to be far less supportive and comfortable than the traditional layered Tempur-material. It is also, nation-wide, their least popular bed.

It certainly did not read like that in your original post. Departure from the original design philosophy ? That horse left the stable long ago. In Tempur-Pedic's original infomercial it insisted the classic bed and contour pillow were the correct design giving you the correct posture and support after years of research by "sleep scientist."

I am not surprised that the Bellasonna is Tempur-pedic's least popular bed. It has been telling its customers that inner-spring mattresses and counter pressure are "bad" for almost 20 years. No to mention the "disturbance"...
Re: First time purchasing a mattress (leaning towards memory foam) - sandman

I think it is hard to recommend any one of the S brands over the other.  However, I would avoid Spring Air since they seem to have the worst reviews.  Sealy came out slightly ahead.  Orignal mattress factory, Denver mattress and Simmons were the top 3 rated innerspring brands in consumer reports.   I think the first decision would be pocketed coils vs. interlaced (connected together).   In theory, pocketed will conform more to your body, so they might be more comfortable.  However, they may also be more likely to shift and lose support.  Most pillowtops will lose support over time, so usually best to avoid those.

You probably need to go to a store (I found that Macy's had a pretty good selection in my area) and see what you like.  I tended to like S&F, Simmons and Sealy (in that order), but I have not tried many other brands.  I wouldn't...

Thanks for all the feedback.

FloBeds definitely sounds to be the company with the best customer service after reading all the good things that people have written in this forum, and I definitely consider excellent customer service to be very important.  I might just call them up to see if they have an option to get something that isn't split into separate sleep zones.

Thanks jimsocal for the ideas.  Unfortunately, I'm not the mattress surgery type of person.  I checked out Rockymountainmattress, it seems they don't have latex mattresses, only memory foam.  And yes, I definitely want to buy from a company where I can have a trial period, to me it's a no brainer if such an option exists, especially when buying something with so much "iffyness".

Thanks sandman for the suggestion with foamsweetfoam.  They look to be a pretty good store, and actually they are very close to where I live,...

I ordered the queen size Blended Talalay Latex Posture V-Zone High Profile bed.  Specifications are 11-1/4" thick with organic cotton and wool cover.  The latex consists of four layers of selectable levels of firmness based on body height and weight.  It is selectable for each side of the bed so my husband can select a different firmness level based on his preference, height and weight.  I received notification about 10 minutes ago that it just shipped from the California factory.  I'm really excited to receive it.  My husband has been experiencing shoulder issues due to an injury and rarely sleeps well at night.

I decided on a latex bed after staying at a resort a while back at a friend's timeshare.  We stayed in the guest room and when I got into bed, I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.  The next morning, I stripped the...

My Experience Buying A Latex Mattress - blingo99

My Experience Buying A Latex Mattress

After hours of Internet research, reading retail and manufacturer sites, over a hundred forum posts on the topic from consumers, and talking to three of the leading (non-chain) latex mattress retailers, I bought a latex mattress yesterday, put it together and had my first night’s sleep on it. A sports injury is keeping me in this weekend so I thought I’d save you many hours of research by detailing my search.

Why should you consider my advice? (1) I am a marketing professional from an industry unrelated to mattresses (and therefore able to recognize and cut through much of the marketing hype) (2) I am an obsessive researcher (3) I have a talent for sorting facts and getting to the bottom line, and (4) I’ve owned futons, spring mattresses, a water bed, and an airbed (and can...
