Re: Soliciting feedback on Vi-Spring and Hypnos - DianeK

I do not own either but have checked them out quite extensively, and spent a night on a Hypnos.  As a 100lb female side sleeper this is how I would rate them:  Hypnos - very firm, Vi-Spring - firm to medium-firm.  I would recommend adding Green Sleep to your list as they make a high quality spring bed and use latex as the comfort top which won't compress like some of the other fibres used in Hypnos and Vi-Spring upholstery.  They would all be in a similar price range.

Is anyone carrying Green Sleep in your area?  They are a very well-done mattress and worth checking out.  They are dunlop, but they are not dead feeling.

Re: Handmade mattresses - budgy

I don't think a Gardner is any much more handmade than a normal bed, but I will say it looks like good materials used for the price.  Basically all mattresses in the world have some aspects of their construction that are done by hand.  I would say to call a mattress legitimately hand made then the fillings have to be sorted by hand, the coils have to be stitched together by hand and the upholstery has to be hand tufted.  When its all said and done....none of them will be inexpensive...not to say they wouldn't be reasonable.

Some mattress companies that fit most of those descriptions (other than hand tied coils) - McRoskey, SleepTek (tufted innerspring mattress), Royal-Pedic, Green Sleep (pocket coil ones are stitched together rather than using glue).  I believe the most aggressively priced out of this category is the SleepTek Innerspring mattress although it is...

GreenSleep actually makes their own rubber which makes them pretty unique.  They have their own custom rubber tree seed which is actually registered, it is technically dunlop process.  the beds are expensive but the quality of the covers is far superior and the dowel bases themselves are the biggest premium you pay over most other natural rubber mattresses.

Thanks to all for your helpful responses. I went to The Natural Sleep Store in Denver the other day and was introduced to their own latex mattresses with organic cotton and wool. Their new line is Bella Sera, and it sounds equivalent to Savvy Rest--96% pure latex in three or four layers, covered with organic wool in an organic cotton casing with a zipper. It is cheaper than Savvy Rest. I guess the downside is that it is new and therefore doesn't have a track record. Here's a link: http://bellaseraorganicmattress.com/

I also tried the GreenSleep mattress at the store, and it was extremely comfortable. I like the idea of the dowel-on-polymer foundation. It is a very expensive mattress, though, and I don't know if it is worth the extra cost. Apparently it has silk as well as wool and cotton in the layers over the latex, and this helps...

Final review.

Hi Everyone,

I've had my FloBed for close to 5 months now, and I LOVE it!heart

It took a few months to get the proper configuration. For someone with no physical limitations, it would have gone much faster.

With severe fibromyalgia and nerve damage in hips I need a very soft bed, yet with enough support to avoid lower back pain. This makes for a very fine line, and "Team Flobeds" (Dewey and Dave), were able to fine tune my mattress to my special needs.

My final configuration from FloBeds:

Re: Sams Club 100% natural latex mattress??? - napali

For bert76 and kimberlyh:

The original all-latex mattress is still there at Sam's Club - just try a search for "American Sleep Organic". For example:

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod865236

which is still the same as

http://www.innomax.com/index.php?crn=243&action=show

The "American Sleep Eco-Green" mattress seems to be the rebranded Allura line also from Innomax:

http://www.innomax.com/?crn=229&action=show

According to the descriptions (they are identical at Innomax and Sam's) this one is a 3" Talalay latex topper with HR foam core. It's also $560 cheaper than the all-latex mattress ($1338 vs. $1898 for King). Is the HR foam core really much worse than the latex core?

Also, the Costco's current price of $1599 for the all-latex King is $300 lower than Sam's - is this really a fair reflection of difference in quality? (putting foundation...

Ha, according to the Green Sleep web site, the nearest dealer is ABC Carpet and Home.   Which is where I saw the Royal Pedic, and they didn't have anything else there.  There's another dealer about 30 miles away though, so maybe I'll give them a try - thanks.

The "American Sleep Eco-Green" model is 1338.00... not 100% latex.

The one I'm talking about is the "American Sleep Organic" (Innomax White Night). This model is 1898.00 + TX sales tax.

Thanks for your reply, DianeK.  I share the same impression as you regarding both brand with my brief visit to a retailer over the weekend.  They have on the floor Hemsley and Sherbourne from Hypos Castle series, The Signatory, Regal Supreme and Baronet Supreme from Vi-Spring.  Having able to try...
