This question is not as easy as it seems because you cannot generalize about latex that is mixed with synthetics unless you know about the synthetics. There are too many variables in products that can be used that are called synthetics. For example, if a manufacturer was adding sand to a latex blend to increase density they would also call sand a synthetic. That is why most people prefer to stick with 100% natural latex. At least then you will know what you are getting. ...

Really? I was just looking at Flobeds to see if they have a topper that might be nice(I liked the description of how the natural stuff smells like cookies!). Theirs looks like a different design, only in the very middle.

Thanks for the tip on Select Comfort. The Web site didn't have a full-size pad (just king & queen sizes), but maybe I'll call the local SC store to see if they have it in stock. Otherwise, the LL Bean one might be worth trying for me (full size is $109).
Funny; I'm doing the same thing (total bed makeover). I...

I am wondering if possibly part of your temperature difficulties, as regards sleeping, may have to do with humidity more than temperature. Living near the ocean, I would think, it has to be fairly humid year-round. It might be a good idea to get an inexpensive digital temperature and humidity gauge and began to record what the various temperature and humidity conditions are in your bedroom. With very little control over these two very important variables can make it very difficult for somebody who is having body temperature problems while sleeping. I make no claims about being an authority on the subject. But if my recall is correct, our bodies are perspiring all the time. However until that perspiration begins to accumulate on our skin we are not aware of it. But we are losing moisture through our skin 24/7. If there is not proper evaporation we become uncomfortable. They...

You can read my thread "Just bought a new FloBeds." there is a lot of information there about adjusting cores as to firmness and comfort.
I believe you said you were not that large of a man, but back problems may necessitate a firmer mattress for you than would normally be called for, for someone your size and weight.
I almost hesitate to quote size and weight as a requirement. Simply because we are all so very different as regards what we consider, "to firm, or too soft" in reference to a mattresses.
Having said that, my current configuration in a California King mattress,is left-sided F/F/XF right side M/XF/XF. I am finding this configuration to work quite well for me at the current time. If I continue to sleep as I have for the last couple of weeks, I imagine I will keep it that way. I have a few more weeks to...

What is the ILD of the 6" core? You might try sleeping on the core only, a couple of nights to see how it goes.
I would say the bed is to soft with the toppers. You probably need a firmer topper. You need to know the ILD of the various layers. Compare them to a universal standard that represents, soft, medium, firm, and extra firm. This way you can make some kind of rational decision based upon some kind of a standard benchmark.
The standard that I have is from the FlowBeds website. This is for 100% botanically grown natural latex manufactured by Latex International. ILD for there soft range is 20-24, medium 26-30, firm 30-34, extra firm 34-38. They don't always get it done, but they try to place the ILD in the middle of the range....

Batman: I tend to agree with you. Even though the company is someone like Latex International, and they tell you that the blend is 60% synthetic 40% natural, you just can't help but wonder what is in that synthetic.
Unfortunately the bedding industry, for a long time now, has been playing games with the buying public as regards what...

Hi there,
I would look into a Tempurpedic or a latex bed. You can go right onto the Tempurpedic website to read about them, but personally I wouldn't go for anything lower than a Rhapsody.
Or, you could look into a latex bed. Latex beds are made from rubber sap taken from a rubber tree (much like maple syrup from a maple tree).
Latex and memory foam (tempurpedic) products have what is called an open cell construction. This means that when pressure is put on the bed, the air whooshes out of those cells and into adjoining cells. What this means is that when you lie on the bed, the latex or memory foam will conform to your body, providing pressure relief, which I am sure your current bed does not.
As to latex vs. memory foam, both are great products that have a different feel.

Yes, I will report back. Did not have much of a heat issue last night with the Sensus foam out of the mattress. Warm but not too hot. I gues that is about all one can hope for. There will always be some body heat build up.

As you can see in the earlier posts, I tried the Outlast and it did not work for me. It aborbed heat for a while, but eventually it built up to a hot level (when using the Sensus foam). I don't think it had anything to do with the wool. I just think it aborbs the heat but eventually has to release it somewhere. Not sure if wool will work any better with the Sensus foam.

The best price I found on the Natura washable wool/cotton mattress pad was at Select Comfort. They were way lower...
