Re: Serta Pure Response vs Natura Solice: HELP! - Catherine

It might be reasonable; I don't know. Maybe I'm just cheap.
If you think it's reasonable, go ahead and try it. From what eagle said, it sounds like the 20-22 ILD topper might be enough softer to make a difference and give you the plush feel you're looking for.
If you try the lower ILD topper and the bed still feels too firm, make sure you're not bottoming out on it (pushing the topper down far enough...

I decided, since this was “sheet changing day”, to take off the mattress cover and the convoluted 2 inch top layer of latex and inspect the surface of the two top 3 inch layers.
The reason being that it seemed to me the latex had been softening in the hip area. And since it will be five weeks since I first set up the mattress, come this next Monday, I thought it might be a good time to inspect these layers.
I could not see, or feel any indentions or softening in the hip area of these two top players. The layer on the right side of my bed is a medium layer, and the layer on my left side of the bed is a firm layer. The only thing that I can figure out is, it is either purely psychological, or, the natural botanical grown latex has the capacity for rearranging...

LatencyMachine: You might want to give this a look, http://flobeds.com/slats.htm the Euro Slat Foundation might have some advantages.
But I am like you, I prefer a much more solid foundation for my latex mattress. I like the idea that all "conforming of support" comes from the latex and not from some flexibility in a foundation. I think we should keep in mind that we're talking about an entirely different mattress experience, when we think about latex, as opposed to the old innerspring and boxspring arrangements. This is also true with a waterbed. We tend to think that the solid foundation for a waterbed is there because the water weighs so much. And I am absolutely, positively, sure this is a fact. However, it is also a fact that the waterbed manufacture wants you to get the full effect of the water! Not some flexibility built into a foundation.

I believe Savvy Rest is a good company. But you might also want to consider, SleepEZ, FloBeds, and Habitat. Foam Sweet Foam also has some good prices but I do not care for their exchange policy or their return policy. Those are just a few of the alternatives that I can think of to recommend.
You were aware that Simmons had taken bankruptcy? I have no idea what their reorganization company will be like, are really very much about the deal at all, other than I had read they had taken bankruptcy....

You can see a comparison of the composition of all of these "S" brand "latex" mattresses on this chart by US Mattress:
http://site.namebrandbeds.com/latex-mattress-comparison-chart.html
From the description of the mattress you have given, it looks like your mattress is branded on the above chart as the Simmons Natural Care Willowbrook Firm. This mattress is 9 1/2" deep, but only 6" is actually latex. The ILD is 28, which is considered a "medium" firmness in latex. The rest of the mattress is composed of foam base layers and fillers.
The issue you ought to be concerned about is how much latex really is in these "latex" mattresses? Some of them are branded as latex mattresses but actually contain very little latex and a lot of PU foam, which is *not* long lasting or durable. Many people have complained about the PU foam layers in these "S" brand mattresses degrading within a very short time, leaving...

I tend to agree with Kimberly, that it is nice to have a customizable bed. That way you know what is in it, and you can try different layers to get the right level of support/comfort for you. Ideally you would buy from a place that you can exchange the different layers and/or return the whole thing. It is also nice to have half width layers, so you can try different combinations on each half of the bed. Not sure if they do that in full size though.
As a further customization, you can try something different than latex on the top comfort layer, such as memory foam, wool, etc. That will give a different feel as well, so you have many options to get the feel/support you like. Obviously there are so many possibilites that it can drive one crazy. So, best...

Do you know exactly what the composition of this mattress is? You list latex, ultra foam, purfoam. Do you know how many inches of each? Latex is generally more expensive but should last longer. The foam layers includes may not last as long.

Thank you very much for the time you took to inform me about this particular mattress and your guidance towards websites/pages which have been educating me about latex mattresses. This is a very complex and passionate subject and I am totally excited to see which one of the companies I decide to use and purchase my first latex mattress. Therefore, I I don't necessarily like the original bed I was looking to purchase as it appears that it is not completely made out of natural botanical latex material. Thanks to your comments and the reading I have been doing. T...
