We need to know our rights. It is our fault if we remain ignorant.

eagle2, I think the mattress manufacturers only have to list whether or not it's flammable and if it's new material, etc. That's all well and good.
But I don't think they ever have to tell you how much foam is in it and what type of foam is in it.
I am getting my new Englander mattress (just for the springs, I'll be dissecting it soon) tomorrow or Friday and I'll note whether or not it comes with any disclosure as to the foam etc. I'm pretty sure they do not, or else the mattress stores would not have had to try to call Englander to get the answers,...

A local guy here sells Restonic, and like JIM, they sell a lot of hype without a lot of substance or numbers to back it up.  I got TWO Restonic beds from him a few years ago...the first one was nice but got a butt-dent within three months.  Returned it , he said it MUST be faulty, so got a pillowtop of the same mattress....heavenly....but then the butt-dent appeared and I took that one back too.  I'm friends with the guy, so watched as he went through the different mattresses...flavors of the month, I like to call it, and he was all big on the latex ones for awhile.  They came all decompressed in a bag, then once it is opened, they swelled up.  It was nothing more than a piece of latex.  Nothing fancy.  I think it had a cover on it.  Whoopie.
So, visited him again a couple of...

Jimsocial and Linda:

I have no idea which of the FlowBeds you both have purchased. The one I have looked at with FlowBeds was the all natural 4 layer mattress. This mattress has a top layer that is a two inch soft convoluted Talalay. The three layers beneath the top layer can be any degree of firmness you wish to have. They even have an extra firm layer that is a blend of Talalay and synthetic Talalay to get a more firm consistency. So I do not know why you cannot have a soft top layer and anything from soft to extra firm beneath this top layer.

So I would think that if you have this mattress you can have a soft top layer and any degree of firmness under it that will work for you. As you have both mentioned the customer service at Flowbeds is excellent and they will...

Hi Chris,
I'm curious if you got this problem solved (sinking in middle) and what you did. Also what firmness cores do you have? I'm having a problem with some depression in my soft top layer, but if I put a medium on top, it's too soft. My bed is all natural talay from FloBeds. FloBeds has great customer service, but I'm not sure I like the all-talaly bed...

Yes Chris, hope all is well with you. All of use, looking into this question of split latex, would very much appreciate  a response. Thanks in advance.

Linda: my question to you is this line in your post, "I'm having a problem with some depression in my soft top layer, but if I put a medium on top, it's too soft." I can not understand your statement. Is this a typo? Are you saying that your top...

Jimsocal: I agree with you that we as consumers do not have that much protection. We need more, much more I feel. The current law is to limited as to content and states covered.

I would like to see a federal law effecting all states that required all manufactured of furniture, bedding, and toys to have to stipulate exactly what was in our products, or they could not be sold in the United States under penalty of high fines.

Here is some more info on law labels.

This is exactly why I am posting this question here.  I want to buy a good mattress, but can't find much info from manufactures web sites.  I am from a small town, and do know the store owner.  He is recommending this mattress, and it is what he sleeps on.  If I buy it and don't like it, I can return it....

Hi Don,

I wrote a response to yoiur post in the thread "Savvy Rest Repot" which may give you more info. I have the 4 layer all-natural talalay, with the very top layer being the convulted "eggcrate" piece) I didn't word my response above very well. Basically I need a soft top layer (not counting the convuluted layer), but am trying to find the right combo of softness and support overall. If I put a medium layer on top, I don't find it soft enough.

I find the top soft core gets a bit depressed in the middle where my hips are, and am concerned especially over the long term.I only sleep on one side of the bed so have not experienced the "split" problem that Chris is having. (In fact, my 12 year old bed had a split latex mattress (except for 2" wool topper which was...

Thanks Jimsocal and Don for your comments. I have the all natural talalay with 3 3" layers and the thin convulted ("eggcrate") talaly on top. I have a chronic illness and pain and need quite a soft top layer but with very good support overall. I sleep primarily on my side (and some on my back) and am 5'51/2", about 130 lbs.

I have the 2 sides of a queen set up differently so have tried every possible combination I think! Nothing works unless I have soft on top ; have tried medium on top and it's just not soft enough for me (in terms of relieving pressure points). Currently, on the side I sleep on, I have it set up with soft on top, then 2 firms, which is the combination I've slept the most on.

This combo is not ideal, as it's still a little too firm for...
