Re: Restonic Healthrest 100% natural latex - jimsocal

I took a look at their website and it - like most other mattress sites - does not give a lot of detailed information.
Are you sure this mattress is 100% latex? I mean, is there nothing BUT latex in the mattress, or is the little latex it has in it "100% latex"? Sometimes mattress companies try to mislead...

IF it is 100% latex, find out the following and come back here and tell us:

Who makes the latex? Is it Talalay, Dunlop or "jungle" latex?
What ILD does it come in? Is it one firmness for all or do you have a choice of firmness or ILD?
Does it have springs or is it pure foam? If it has springs who makes them and what gauge are they? How many turns do they have in each spring?
What other foams are in the mattress, if any? What thicknesses and types? Full disclosure or no...

I tried out some Natura latex beds that a furniture store near me has just started to carry.  The first couple I tried had a dunlop core.  I did not like the feel of them.  Very "dead" feeling.   Then I tried one with a talalay core and it was very comfortable.  I ended up with a bed from Denver Mattress (a chain store) it's their Snowmass latex bed.  It has a 6 inch talalay core with a softer 2 inch talalay on top.  It does have about an inch of PU form in the quiliting, but I think that I got a great deal - the mattress was only $750!  That's about half of what I would have paid with SleepEZ.  Granted, I had to take the bed as it came configured, but I just wasn't in the position to plunk down $1500 on a mattress right now.  So far...

Beanie: Thank you for the response. When you indicate that they do not offer organic, what do you mean?

This company claims to be selling Talalay latex foam from Europe. Is it a blended latex foam? Part synthetic and part natural rubber?

This is the problem with so much of the mattress marketing today. It is so difficult to really find out what the actual product is. I have lived my life around synthetic latex without any problems. But I have never owned a bed that was purely a synthetic bed. The problem with synthetic latex is that the quality can be all over the place due to the fact that there are no government regulations stating what the product must be. This business about the "organic latex" I believe is over hyped. They are selling a great deal against synthetics. In the end what is really important...

"Your bed isn't perfectly square, so you cant rotate the cores. Do you have a center support on your frame? How many legs does it have? Oh, and how much does your cat weigh? lol.
eagle2"

Well, my cat is 18 lbs so I'm not denying he may be a contributing factor! Yea, I do have a center support (so three vertically oriented supports) and then full coverage horizontal boards with no gap > a quarter of an inch. I can stand on it. I don't think it's the frame.

"So let me try again.

The business you mention about the crack between the split pieces is a concern of mine as well. However many people have told me not to worry as the friction between the pieces keeps them from giving you a problem. You of course, have your own personal experience, and would beg to differ. Flowbeds seems to...

I hope no one thinks me rude or unmannerly regarding this post. As I do not have anything to contribute to the actual original posters query. But I just wanted to express myself about this subject of latex mattresses as I have been deep into this for the last month or so, and you all know what I mean, night and day seven days a week.

I started out looking at Stearns and Foster's "natural latex" mattresses. I have found a good salesman and was getting close to "pulling the trigger" when I discovered this website and the many others that flowed from it.

From what I have been able to ascertain it is almost impossible to find out what the big three "S" manufactures are putting in their beds. And I'm not talking about all of this green, organic, off gassing, and other, back to nature movement, buzzwords. What I'm talking...

Hi,
Had my CKing Flobed about 6 months now. Aside from the cat, I sleep alone and always end up in the middle of the bed....over the separation between the cores. There's a very clear feelign of sinking in between the cores, or causing them to separate somewhat. Rolling to either side is a bit of a 'going uphill' feeling. Any suggestions on ways to eliminate or minimize this? It seems like, ideally, with the three cores, you would alternate their orientation like II = II in order instead of II II II ...

Chris

Well Chris I'm going to try this again. I just wrote you a lengthy response in this crazy site and the way it works it all got wiped out.

So let me try again.

I feel your pain as I am looking into this very situation as we speak I just...

Sorry for the abbreviation. FBM is foambymail.com,  not foamorder. FBM carries the least expensive latex mattresses and many folks on this board have had good results ordering from them. However, many other people have not been happy with the quality of the latex because of apparent irregularities in the product (i.e., irregular holes, ILDs, etc.) The web site is pretty cheesy and the company doesn't seem to be straightforward about the source of the latex. Having said that, once the latex is inside the terry cover (an upgrade) with perhaps a separate mattress cover on top (I have the Cuddle Bed), it is very attractive with no indication of any imperfections. Their range of ILDs is more limited than the other companies you are considering. And they don't offer organic. Hope this helps.

Beanie: Thank you for the response. When you indicate that they do not offer organic, what do you mean?

eagle2,

Thanks for the additional information about foamorder.  I understand why you're traveling out of state to try out a mattress. I almost did the same, since I live in an area where latex mattresses are not available, certainly not organic. I took a risk with FBM, but luckily it worked out for me because there's no way I could have repacked the mattress or topper and shipped them back. Good luck and please report back to us.

Ilene

IIene: Is FBM the same as foamorder.com? Or is this the abbreviation for "Flow Bed Mattresses."?

I just received the sample talalay from Flowbeds. The samples of talalay from Flowbeds seem to be the same as the talalay samples from Savvy Rest. I assume they both use Latex International. Savvy Rest uses COCOLatex from India for there dunlop.

At this point in time I am quite torn between the two companies. Both...

Hi Steve: Well my friend you are going through right now what I am about to go through. I have been doing all the reading and trying to ascertain who has the best price, and better business bureau reports, and return policies etc. now that I have narrowed it down to a couple of companies I have to decide between talalay and dunlop and firmness layers. Not an easy process when there is no dealer close by where I can try out the mattresses.

So next week I am going out of state to a dealer and actually lay down on the various configurations. From what you are saying in your post you made a mistake by erring on the side of firmness. From everything I am reading, your experience would've been entirely different had you chosen talalay.   Talalay seems to me to be a much more "springy" type of latex...
