Re: Update - Returned Flobed & bought Stearns & Foster - Lynn2006

BobJ,

I am happy for you that you found a bed that fits your comfort needs and learned on this site that a topper may be what you need with a very firm surface underneath. Since I am not quite 5 feet tall, the X-Firm latex cores were firm enough for me and my 1" toppper was just right for my comfort but everyone is different and it feels so good when you are able to tweek your bed to make it just right for you.

It took Sleepies over 2 months to refund me my money when I cancelled the order the next day and the bed was never delivered. I am glad you at least did not have the restocking fees and at least were able to finally get your refunds despite having to do some reminding.

It is like this with pillows also for comfort. I...

I think it is because a 36 ILD latex core will have an average of being maybe 35 to 38 since latex is natural and it is difficult to get an exact number. Latex International lists the average of the top, middle and bottom of the latex core and gives an average. That is why two of my latex cores are 37 ILD rather than 36 ILD since I asked Dave and Dewey at FloBeds to find me two latex cores on the high side of the latex ILD range for the extra firm 36 ILD latex cores. One of my Super Firm cores is 44 on average and the other is the one I prefer that is 46 on average. I like how the this information is on the tag on the bottom of the latex core....

Haven't checked the prices yet but I wanted to add that they included this link with my email which shows that their Dunlop latex is certified "100% natural". Not sure exactly what it means, but here it is should someone feel like reading it:

As of Monday, June 08, 2009 this is foamorder.com's prices for Dunlop latex foam:

2.8 " x 38" x 75" (TWIN) FIRM "Natural Latex" (DUNLOP) = $222.35
So I could get almost 6" of Dunlop (5.6") for $444.70.

Note that this is 31 ILD which I would call "Medium" more than "Firm"

Still seems a little high to me, and I'm going to keep looking for a cheaper source....

Hi everyone :-) I'm in dire need of a new mattress and, thanks to this forum, I've decided that latex is probably the best way to go. I'm planning to purchase a mattress/topper combo from foambymail.com, but I have a question regarding the ILD of the latex. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of different threads that the 6" firm mattress cut in half is equivalent to two 3" medium toppers. So if I were to extrapolate using that information, you can essentially create a firmer sleeping surface by adding more layers of the same ILD. Does this sound correct?

I'm currently sleeping on an Aerus Natural memory foam mattress that is comprised of 3" of 4 lb. memory foam over a polyurethane core, and it is like sleeping on a mushy slab of granite -- pressure points galore!...

Flobeds' customer service must have heeded you and updated their website:  today that "100% Natural Latex" pillow that in its pic looked just like the "Latex Pincore" is no longer listed. It's gone.

I know what you mean! I can't use my ErgoSoft latex pillow because it's just a little too firm, so I've been using it as a backrest. :-) Though you've really been getting your money's worth since yours was free. ;-)

Thanks for mentioning the Flobed pillow...the soft sounds perfect to me (CS said it was 20 ILD), but it's blended latex and I really wanted natural. I'm probably being paranoid, but I never know what's going to cause a reaction and what isn't. The only other pincore pillow I could find is a Dunlopillo 10 ILD Talalay latex, which sounds like something you'd sink right through. So, on with the pillow search!

Flobeds sells a natural latex version of its pillow. It looks exactly the same, i.e., pincore, but instead of being called Latex Pincore it's called 100% Natural Latex, You wouldn't have seen it following the...

Rablin Wood Platform Beds (Made in the USA) - mifronte
Jun 15, 2009 8:48 PM
I purchased 3 Rablin Wood platform beds (king, double, twin) over a year ago and is very satisfied.  I opted for the double poplar slats to provide an almost solid foundation with small gaps for airflow.  The gaps between the slats are about 1/4" or less.  A bonus is that it is made in the USA!  The king is supporting my 8" all natural Talalay latex mattress, the double is supporting a Sleep Innovations NovaForm foam mattress, and the twin is supporting a futon mattress.  All three feels like the mattresses are on the floor.

Here is the URL:
http://www.platformbeds.com/index.php3?category=0000000003&cart_id=720190153011589225

For shipping purposes, assembly was required, but I did not think it was too bad.  I completed all beds and even a few nightstands in one afternoon.  I would think a solid platform would be to costly to ship.  You can always go to Lowes or Home Depot to buy a solid piece...
Post your experiences regarding effectiveness of 1" (inch) Talalay Latex Topper - mifronte
Jun 13, 2009 3:06 PM
For those who has experimented with 1 inch Talalay latex toppers to eliminate pressure points, please post your impression of the impact the 1 inch topper. Please include your ILDs, pressure points, and the degree of relief from 1 - 10 with 1 no difference and 10 being it eliminated your pressure points and you are happy.

My background:

Height 5' 9" and 190 lbs.

A little a year ago I purchased a 8" Talalay latex mattress consisting of a 6" core at 30 ILD and a 2" topper at 22 ILD, all enclosed in an all natural cotton cover with Joma wool batting.  The goal was to relieve my shoulder pain for sleeping on my side.  I sleep about 50% on my left side, 10% on my right side, and 40% on my back.

Eight months into sleeping on the mattress, I started to develop a sore lower back on my right side...

I'm writing in connection with the original question, not the new developments, so pardon the interruption.

We just decided on FloBeds instead of SleepEZ because

1) FloBeds seems more chatty and open; for example, you don't know as much about the cover material w/SleepEZ

2) SleepEZ's all natural (ie, not blended natural/synthetic) latex seems to be Dunlop rather than Talalay

3) all the stuff about the Better Business Bureau on FloBeds' site was very persuasive

4) cute FloBeds website (sorry to admit that, but hey, it matters subconsciously at least)

5) the ability to price-match retroactively (as Lynne just pointed out again)

The total price w/foundation and legs for FloBeds made us both gasp in horror, but we figure that we'd rather know EXACTLY what we're getting instead of guessing, and that kind of assurance is something you have to pay for.
