Re: Flobed set up - step by step - Lynn2006

BobJ, thanks for sharing the pics. I also love my FloBeds and do not find it sleeps cold. I sleep with a duvet cover over a heavy down comforter with a comforter on top over a sheet. I am now using only a fitted sheet over my bed to get the full benefit of the latex.  In the summer time, I just take the down comforter out of the duvet cover with the same set-up and I am fine.  I ended up liking only X-Firm cores on the firmer side averaging 37 ILD over a 46 ILD Super Firm latex core.  I guess I like very firm beds. But I am happy I got to experiment with the latex cores and found that if the bed is too firm (I could not sleep with a topper over the 44 or 46 ILD latex core), I had shoulder pain. If the...

It's true. Wool is a natural flame retardant barrier material. Most of the major manufacturers use barrier materials rather than dusting the mattresses with chemicals like boric acid....
Mattress Surgery 101 - cloud9

The First Cut

One morning last September I got out of bed and decided this was the day I was going to perform mattress surgery. I’d had my Spring Air Back Supporter Luxury Firm for fifteen months and it had started to go soft and unsupportive at nine—not that it was ever really all that comfortable to begin with. I’d had to bolster the lumbar area with a couple of pieces of remnant carpeting covered by a flat feather pillow and some half inch HR foam. I was tired of sleeping on a ridge. For months I’d been working up the nerve to cut open an expensive piece of bedding, and after waking up early yet again with lower back pain I made up my mind. It was time.

Philip & Beanie,
Thanks for your info. I have searched also and can't find any real positive answers. Yes, Philip Ultra-Fresh will make one problem or the other as you said. I am glad you like the wool topper, and it may pose no problem at all. It looks really nice, and I can not find anything like it.

Beanie, part of the email was from SnugFleece; I just attached the emails from Thomson so SnugFleece could see what kind of a response I got from them. But SnugFleece didn't seem too concerned that the Thomson company is telling the consumer I don't know what it is and if it bothers you buy something else. I also am concerned about money and am tired of wasting it on products that either don't provide comfort and/or have chemicals added that I don't want.

Also, Beanie I think the...

Epinions is not the last word on opinions. Example Sealy memory foam bed got good reviews mostly. A few bad ones (mines in there) and I can't tell you why some people liked it. Maybe it was the honeymoon period ; - )

Re: Anyone have experience with IKEA Sultan Heidal Mattress - CeeQueue

I just bought a Heidal and I'm quite happy with it. I haven't noticed any smell, but I use a CPAP at night so that's something I might not be aware of. I think I would have noticed something when making it up, though, and I didn't (and I'm really sensitive to smells).

I do find the mattress extremely firm -- so much so that it's irritating my fibromyalgia trigger points. I'm now experimenting with different toppers to see what will give me the best cushioning without compromising the support. The support seems to be so good for my back that I'm still happy with it even though the surface is too firm. I'd love to get the latex topper IKEA sells, but it's $255 for a double. Yikes.

The Hasselback is listed as medium firm, so it would probably be better if you don't like a very firm mattress. However, it...

Leo -- Thanks ... I didn't realize the message was from Ultra-fresh. In my quick googling, I noticed there were many variations of the product for different applications.  The most informative links were from other countries. In addition to Philip's information, there was some type of floor finish product that had it.  It seems to be in everything. Humidifiers? Hmmm... BF just bought one...  Now I wonder if the anti-microbial property of latex is "natural" or due to an added chemical. I also saw the dunlop foam site that you mentioned.  I guess I'm more concerend about my 401K at this point in time, but I do wish you luck in finding an organic topper that meets your needs and does not break the bank. Please keep us posted....

I bought the SAT bed back in October, CalKing Size. I liked the customer service, the no motor aspect and the wool topper. It's straight wool fluff that you put your sheets on. However, I began o notice that I sank when I would roll across the center of the bed. This bugged me to no end.... the sides are supported by the air chambers but the middle didn't seem to offer the same support. I'd wake up every morning in the middle sunken in. Anyways, SAT tried to help me, but no avail. I returned the bed late Jan. I ended up losing around 400 dollars of shipping costs, but did keep the two pillows I got with the bed from a promotion. Now I'm sleeping on a Flobed which I like better. It may be too firm for...

I had never heard of "Savvy Rest" so I looked at their website but they don't say how long they have been in the mattress business.  The testimonials sound a lot like yours - all from recent buyers.  Looks like several "green" sellers are selling the Savvy Rest products.

Natural latex is touted at the best of breed of foam mattresses by a lot of folk.  You didn't say what you paid and it looks like the Serenity Cal. King sells for around $2600 for mattress only and $3200 for mattress with foundation package which, to me, sounds like a LOT of cash to pay for a mattress but that's just me.

I'm sure you will continue to be happy with you mattress and this is not intended to be in any way a negative post but it would be helpful to know how your satisfaction holds up after six months and then after a...

For what it's worth.. I called Sleep EZ (spoke to a Shawn, dunno if it's the same Shawn everybody here talks about... I will assume so), regarding how they handle flame retardants.
The answer was "we use (indiscernable thru my phone) wool."  Shawn said there was not a need to add flame retardant because the wool material they used was naturally flame retardant.

Thoughts?

By the way... thank you so much MattressMom for all your posts!  It finally put all these things I've heard and read about in an understandable format.  Be great to hear from you on how things are going with your Savvy Rest now that it's been a bit longer :)

Oh yeah.. just heading out the door to do an in-store test drive of a Savvy Rest myself :)

P.S.  Oh.. to Philly.  I don't necessarily think we can conclude which is better based on what most vendors are "pushing" (in...
