Re: Topper: Is 1 inch Latex enough? - MequonJim

The blended and 100% natural talalay are very similar products.  I own both, and my next purchase will be blended.  Blended has a longer warranty by the manufacturer.  It also has less of a smell.  I also like the feel better.  The 100% natural feels more like I am sleeping on Jello.

I would think sleeplikeabear.com is a blended talalay.  The 100% natural would be mentioned to attract certain types of people, if they had it.  The 100% natural is also more rare since it is made in lower quantities compared to the blended....

mccldwll, Thank you for  sharing your experiment with us and how it is working for you. I always enjoy reading your posts.  I think they should make latex for a queen bed in 6 pieces per layer so that everyone can zone their latex.

So far I am most comfortable with 1" of natural latex over 36 ILD over 44 ILD over 44 ILD. I still wish my shoulders had 1/2" more inch of comfort but the rest of me loves this over a slat box.  I want to try out the 1.5" natural latex topper again that I have not used for over 1 week to see how it is over a 44 ID over  a36 ILD over a 44 ILD  I just wish I could cut each split latex core (two per each layer with three layers under the topper that is not split) into thirds so I could experiment...

Kimmcgov: Tiny specks of latex all over the topper... normal? - Lynn2006

Kimmcgov, The 1.5" latex topper is a 22-23 ILD 100% natural latex topper made by Latex International (tag says this) and not too firm but just not as soft as my 1" 17 ILD latex topper from Overstock that they do not sell anymore. I really like the bed under the topper to be very firm but I need enough cushion to be comfortable but not too much to not get the support underneath since I am very petite and do not sink in much. Dave at FloBeds sent me this topper and had it specially ordered for me.  I think he ordered a few in case others wanted it also and if there was a demand, he would sell this topper on his website also.

I tried a Dunlap 1.5" latex topper that Dave got me a few months ago that was a medium firm topper at about 28 ILD and...

Reread my post. "Jungle latex" refers to dunlop made in Asia with very little quality control, not to dunlop in general, and especially not to that manufactured by major players. The 100% natural for the California market refers only to Latex International's Talatech. It used to be very difficult to find outside California, even after LI introduced it, since that was the intended market. It is not a better product than the blended Talatech, but many wanted a mattress which was "more natural" so LI offered it.

"As for the rest of your rant - I think people distinguish latex manufactured from stuff that comes from trees as opposed to stuff made from petroleum. Sure, nothing is 100% anything but 97% is a lot different than 20% or 40% from the plant source. Anyone who can read can figure that out. And, of course all latex is man made in the sense that you can't go into a forest and chop down raw slabs of latex to sleep on. People with chemical senitivities might want to go as far from something like memory foam as possible. "100% Natural Latex" might be a marketing term and not absolutely, literally accurate but the term does distinguish it from latex that is blended with petroleum products in a specific ratio and products that have a lot of cheap fillers that affect the quality and texture of the latex. Some sources...

A question for Lynn2006 about your 1.5 inch topper: what is the ILD of the latex and is it Talatech (blended) or 100% natural Talalay. I saw that you really liked it on a previous thread and are a small person and side sleeper like me. Thanks. I'm also interested to hear how alibaba likes the 32 ILD topper which sounds somewhat firm... ...

I recently bought a twin latex bed set off Ebay (bear with me,lol) and it's supposed to be delivered next week but I wanted to mention the seller since it's the company that supplies the latex for Dormia, Spring Air and some others. I saw their beds on Ebay and did some checking and emailing. What I found out is that Latexco, a Belgian latex company built a latex factory in Lavonia ,Ga. in 2006. They are selling their mattresses directly on Ebay. I've seen 3 models listed there. A european, a natural  and the American Luxury Plush (that's the one I bought) I emailed latexco to make sure this factory is their's(it is) and the Ebay seller is connected to them(he is). The mattresses are listed as all latex so I took a chance and ordered. Anyway, I'm mentioning it because his prices being factory direct is what sold me on it as...

I do prefer the Dunlop and I also agree the blended Talatech is a superior product. The "all natural" talalay seems too fragile. My concern about the Talatech is that it seems like a lot of people here had problems getting the talalay to feel firm enough and that the Talatech mattresses we tried around here felt too :jiggly" (for lack of a better word). My husband's back tightened up on the talalay beds he tried here so we took a chance on Dunlop. So far we are very happy with the Dunlop mattress we purchased. It is the right firmness without "pushing back" like the talalay we tried.

My parents have had a Dunlop mattress from a small town in Wisconsin since 1973. Jungle Dunlop has been used by a broader market than California for a long time....

Howdy, Y'All!

My momma - who has cheated the undertaker way too long - now has a $1900 Simmons BeautyRest "Dressler [spelling?] LF (Luxury Firm)" full-size mattress set, w. 10-year quality guarantee. This is a coil-based mattress, not latex. We live 800 miles apart, and when she has an issue, I get her UNRELIABLE descriptions of it. Since I don't live near her and it is difficult for me to get there, I appreciate your patience sorting out the below details and you kind folks giving me your best estimate of TRUE problem and possible solution(s).

1. First, she got two Extra Firm latex mattresses - paid $1600- $1800, top-name brand (I forget which) and sent them both back to store, within two weeks each. She tried them out in-store for 30 mins.; they were fine. Starting w. first night after delivery, she found them uncomfortable. She tried to do the get-used-to-it over...
