DIY HR foam mattress--generally good, couple of questions!
So, we've finally set up the foam mattress from FBM! It came so quickly--in 3 or 4 days, so i was really pleased.

3 inches LUX-HQ
3 inches HD36-HQ
1 1/2 inches HD36 eggcrate
1 1/2 inches supersoft eggcrate
1 inch fiber mattress cover

I really liked the initial feel of the mattress--firm, yet a little cush on top. Felt really solid, supportive. Two things i've noticed, in my first night's sleep, though, are: It might sleep a little 'hot'--i think i just woke up sweating slightly! And, when i lie on my back, i feel a little discomfort in my lumbar area...Perhaps this is due to not 'sinking' in as much as i should?

Well, i'll see how it feels in the next nights.
Can i place anything on top to lessen the heat? Latex, perhaps? I'm sure memory foam would only increase it...?

I'm generally pleased, and will report again (of course!). Thanks for all the great advice and information--this forum is such a wonderful resource!! One day maybe i'll be able to afford a FloBed...;)

p.s. and of course there's the motion transfer question...It feels a lot more stable than my innerspring, of course, but haven't put it to the test yet with boyfriend sleeping in it! If there is discomfort in the lower back, it could be too soft? Latex would help a little with the heat, maybe a cuddle bed or a fleece cover would work also. In general foam is hotter. I think that you will find the motion transfer to not be an issue. |

Thanks for the advice. I feel like it's too hard, not too soft, because i feel the same thing in my back when i lie on the floor (my hips don't sink in, thus my lower back is hanging in the air somewhere...). Hmmm...I felt the 'heat' thing last night, need to do something about that. Maybe latex with cuddlebed would solve both problems? Also just ordered 1" of Sensus foam...will see how that feels, too! |

What works to dissipate the heat is a wool topper. Doesn't have to be too thick. Anyway, when they advertise one as "2" thick" it may be, but not after you lay on it awhile - more like 3/4". So, I'd try a good 100% wool topper. They're good to keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. Wool's funny that way... |
