I'm glad to have found this forum, fantastic!

I am looking to invest in a good long-term bed for me and my wife. Off late we have run into sevral issues. Here's my short story and I look forward to a good recommendation.

Me is 37 years, 6'3" tall, 185 lbs, side sleeper (mostly, but lie on back too). She is 33 years, 5'11" tall, 200lbs, tummy sleeper (sleeps on side and back too).

We have this (serta, crappy? - SEE BELOW FOR SPEC) bed that I had paid $1300 5 years back. Now it seems like there a constant curve/crater on both sides at our butt region. I am assuming this is causing back pain to both of us.

while my wife complains of backache, once is a while, I have serious issues.

I have had a L5-S1 diskectomy  in 2003 and now have a reherniated disc! I woke up with it one day! Just got back from the horspital after 6 days and the doctors are trying to get a fusion done which I have been avoiding.

I have this severe pain in my foot all night and am on meds.

I am thinking of getting a goot bed with a good base that's electronically adjustable to raise head, shoulders, foot etc which is independent on both sides. This way if I wake up at night and raise the foot area to 60 deg, my wife should fall off the bed in her sleep :)

I am "guessing" I need a x-firm mattress?

Could some of you pro's who've lived with gooood mattresses, please share your experiences?

I went to a healthy back store and lied on a few tempurpedic beds for 5 mins each. Honestly, they all felt the same except couple of them and lying down for 5 minsdidn't tell me the difference.
