latex mattress or topper

I have a 3 year old sealy firm mattress with a 3 inch memory foam on top. I have back problems and want to change what I am sleeping on. Parklane Mattresses in Oregon offers a really reasonable latex mattress with a 6 inch med/firm core and a three inch med/soft top which is listed as plush, all in talalay. The other option I thought of was to buy a three inch topper from Rocky mountain to place on my existing mattress. I have never slept on latex so I am not sure what would be a good start. I am not sure if my Sealy is sinking somewhat in the middle, doesn't look like it but sometimes feels like it. Thanks.

Just checked Amazon and they list the mattress as 6 inch firm core with medium 3 inch top and list the bed as firm, webside lists plush. Price is under $1000.00 and it is latex talalay, not a blend.

IMHO, your best and easiest solution is to cut open your current Sealy, remove the memory foam and replace it with latex.

Try that and if it does't work, buy a new mattress of some sort. But it should fix the problem. 9 chances out of 10 it's the cheap foam on top of the Sealy that is hurting your back. The springs should be fine.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. Actually the memory foam is a topper, not in the mattress. I have replaced the memory foam twice. Did a check of the mattress today after reading here and it looks pretty good still. It was the firmest or second firmest mattress they had available when I bought it. I am not going to buy a mattress after reading here. I am going to give a latex topper a try to see how I like it. I need to figure if I should go with a 2 or three inch, med firm or med plush. I think I will go with RM. I have had back surguries but if my mattress is too firm I have issues with my neck and shoulders. Any advice on what topper to start with. If I like the way it works mattress surgury is probably in my future. Great site with so much info, thanks.

I'd go with 1" of medium plush and 1" of medium firm. With those 2 you can reverse their order in the "stack" and vary the feel. IMHO more than 2" of soft is never good, though some disagree. For me anything over 2" of soft hurts my lower back, yet I do need some soft foam on top.

I'm about ready to buy 1" of 19ILD from SleepLikeABear. 24ILD might do it but I'm gonna try the 19.

Let us know how it goes.
