Thanks for you advice and help on the other thread. I have decided to cancel my order for the Stearns and Foster mattress and go with either a memory foam matress or latex matress through foambymail.

I quickly realized that getting a euro pillowtop will be a very bad idea for me very quickly.

I have read some of the members experience on here with memory foam and latex but

I need some help on deciding which one would be the one for me from foambymail.

The memory foam matress that I would get from them is:

4" Slow Recovery Foam - 5.5 lbs/ft.3
w/ 5" LUX-HQ (Firm) Foam - 2.6-2.8 lbs/ft.2
Queen Mattress (60" x 80")

price - about $503

This is their pre-configured one.

The latex matress that they have would require me buying the latex mattress and their latex topper.

6" Talalay Latex Foam (w/ Cover)
Firm (33-38 ILD)
Queen Mattress (60" x 80") - $540

3" Talalay Latex Foam Topper
Soft (20 ILD)
Queen Mattress (60" x 80") - $250

                               Total: $790

I have never tried latex before and I'm not sure if I'll be able to try 100% latex in my area so I would need your experience here.

1.) Do you think the latex is worth the price difference?

2.) Should I get the 2" latex topper or the 3"?

3.) Does anyone have the memory foam mattress set-up and like it?

I'm trying to reduce costs so if latex set-up is only marginally better, I might get the memory foam set-up.

Thanks for your help!

Good decision, IMHO.

Unless the person(s) sleeping in the bed are quite heavy, 4" will be too much MF. 3" is generally the standard (e.g., TPs original offerings), with 2" occasionally being all that's needed for a lighter person. Will save you $53, too.

Here's a third option you may not have considered. I just finished building my own hybrid latex/foam mattress using 6" of latex on top of 5" of Lux-HQ foam. I used 5" only because I wanted a taller mattress, but you could use as little as 3" of the Lux-HQ as your base.

I would recommend as follows: Base: 3" Lux-HQ foam, $122 (will have to trim King to Queen). Middle: 3" 32 ILD Talalay, $258. Top: 3" 20 ILD Talalay, $248. Cover: Queen Mattress Encasement, $69.99 or less (usually this has been $44.99. I just ordered a King for $29.99 [usually $49.99] from same site... perhaps since they're OOS on the queen it has reverted to a higher price until they are restocked?). Total: $698 (or $673 or less).

1.) Can't say for sure since I just built my latex bed and I've never slept on MF before. I went with latex because I could build one affordably, because it sleeps cooler than MF and because it lasts longer than MF.

2.) Tough to say. I went with 2" of 24 ILD on top of 4" 32 ILD latex, with the Lux-HQ under all that. I don't think I'd want it any softer, but without ever having tried a 3" soft topper instead of a 2", it's hard for me to say. Eveyone is so unique in what they prefer anyway.

3.) Not me.

enlightenedIf you end up getting the MF mattress from FBM, see if they'll build it with the Lux and MF foams unglued to each other. I doubt they will, but if they would, this would give you the option of later ditching the MF if you don't like it and putting a latex layer or two on top of your 5" Lux base.
