Our new bed came - nothing fancy, just a decent innerspring super firm with minimum of foam to settle, which the nice little mom and pop mattress store said was a particularly good buy., So now it is time to stop endlessly speculating, and actually buy some latex to soften it. Overstock.com and foambymail seem to have the others beat by such a margin that I just can't resist them. Overstock is a bit cheaper (especially for the oddball 1-1/2" thickness, but foambymail promised me they will send a full sized piece, and offers a 10 year non-prorated guarantee against the stuff settling, which sounds pretty good. Any thoughts? Oh and it is my plan to order the stuff a layer at a time until I am happy, starting with some 19 or 20 ILD (I am a side sleeper with bad shoulders). Should I start with 1", 1-1/2" or 2". The 1-1/2" is only $30 more than the 1", while the 2" is almost double, which makes it pretty tempting. \BTW, I was pleasantly surprised how the local M&P mattress shop blew away the huge new Sleepy's when it came to price. When I told the Sleepy's salesman the price they'd quoted me, he tried to convince me I must be confused, then said "Go buy it". We found the same thing true with major appliances. We have a little local shop that can undersell any of the big chains, and give terrific service on top. |
If Overstock no longer offers a return after opening, then I'd go with FBM. Overstock in general has really gone downhill in terms of what they offer, so I'm not a big fan anymore. I highly recommend buying no more than 1.5" of any topper. For me, once I get up to 2" it can hurt my back if it doesn't offer enough support. I actually think 1.5" is a good thickness, but adding 1" and then another 1" if necessary might work. Some people do tolerate up to 3" of soft toppers, so who knows? With soft Talalay, 2" is probably okay though... but I can't say for sure. I'm going to try 1" or 2" of sleeplikeabear's super soft Talatech some day, though. |
I do agree with Jim. Other companies I have noticed do not return emails. This has happen with 2 companies I was seriously considering. So they are in the same running with O-stock in my eyes. So I am still spinning my wheels trying to find SOME company to buy latex from. |
Just when you think you got it figured out... I was looking at the overstock.com listings, and noticed it said the 2" topper is made in Shri Lanka. That's where Latex Green is, so it seems likely it may be Latex Green. But Latex Green only makes dunlop and overstock swears their topper are talalay. So are their other suppliers in Shri Lanka, or does OS not know what they are carrying? If OS had anything resembling a warranty I might be tempted all the same. I like the idea of 1-1/2". |
Now you have it figured out. I responded on your other thread about this. |
