MY FLOBED CAME!

Whew! The Flobed arrived this afternoon in 3 boxes! I got all the pieces out and checked them to be sure I got everything ordered. I couldn't put it together right away because I was waiting on a foundation to be delivered. They finally brought the foundation around 6:30, so I got to work! Originally I intended to take pictures of the process, but then my DH came home and announced he wasn't helping, so I huffed all the pieces upstairs, laid out the cover as instructed, and began taking out the individual layers. Aside from each piece being heavy and unwieldly, it really wasn't too difficult to get the layers on the mattress cover. and adjust them. I did have to stop and take a 10 minute break after getting the first 2 layers on the bed (4 pieces). Layer 3 went on . . .and then the topper! That's where I ran into a little snag. I put the soft covoluted top layer on, and it's waaaay too big! It's marked a queen, but I'm pretty sure it's a king, lol. I get it lined up top to bottom and along one edge, and it overhangs the other side by about a foot! So . . .temporarily, I folded that piece up and set it aside and zipped up the other 3 layers into the cover. First impressions are, this bed is amazingly comfortable! I was worried about getting a firm/xfirm/xfirm, and I'll have to sleep on it a few nights, but oh la la! It's comfortable just to lie on. Very supportive, springy and bouncy, but not hard. Tomorrow I'll have to call Dewey and have a chat about the top layer. What I'd like is permission to just cut that piece to size without losing my 90 money back guarantee. I've been waiting so long for a comfortable mattress, I don't want to mail this one back and wait for another convoluted piece. If he says ok, I'll trim it down, unzip the cover, put the convoluted layer on . . . and ahhhhhh. I'll do as Eagle and report back on my experiences with my Flobed, though maybe not in the same precise detail. I can't wait to go to bed! |

Eagle, yes, I did buy the blended talalay and yes, I would characterize the odor as somewhat sweet, it was not at all unpleasant. It was just there. Actually, by the morning I didn't notice it anymore. Randy, I did not purchase the Flobeds foundation. I bought a regular foundation for $250 from a local mattress store. If you have a foundation in fine condition then I see no reason why you should buy a new foundation to go with your bed. Your old one should be just fine. On the Flobeds order form there is an optional box to say you don't need a new foundation because you already have a foundation in good condition. Please be wary though, of purchasing a Tempurpedic mattress and using the current foundation with it. From all the reading I've done on customer comments, I would be suspicious that Tempurpedic might not honor any warranty claim if the bed was not placed on a Tempurpedic foundation. Which is kind of silly because the Tempurpedic frame 1) looks really cheap and 2) costs a lot - $400 if I remember correctly. |

yeah, i kinda already resigned myself to getting the foundation if i get tempur but if i go flo i didnt want to if dont have to so wont now looking forward to tomorrow, i am getting very conflicting info on the HD material tempur uses...long story but i assumed it would make for a firmer feel, but 3 different reps at tempur have all told me yes and no, it actually allows for a deeper crater, that could be a problem for my back and my back is the only reason I am going thru this craziness thanx for responding p.s. YOU got the 2 layer flobed, right? does this mean you are only sending back one of the two layers if you want to change firmness or are both in play? This message was modified Oct 16, 2009 by randys

Actually, by the morning I didn't notice it anymore." My assumption is that the excessive odor that you referred to, earlier in this thread, is due to the fact that it is a blended product. What alerted me was your comment that it smells like rubber. The rubber smell that we have learned to associate with rubber, or what we call rubber, is due to petrochemical involvement in the manufacture of these products. After unpacking my bed and smelling actual 100% natural botanically grown Talalay latex, and detecting this sweet cookie dough like odor, was the first time I had actually smelled natural rubber. I'm sure that once your mattress has aired out somewhat, this order will go away. The odor I associate with my mattress is already diminishing considerably. I kind of hate to have it leave, actually. I bought this bed: http://www.flobeds.com/product_details.htm?ID=6080TW It has three, 3" base layers plus a 2" top layer of soft convoluted foam. So it has four layers total, and the bottom three layers are the ones I have the option of switching around if I want during the 90 day period. My layers are firm (32 ILD) over extra firm (36 ILD) over extra firm (36 ILD). I could exchange any one or all of these layers as many times as I want during the 90 day period. On top of those three layers is the two inch convoluted soft layer. |

We used our Tempurpedic on the floor and were allowed to return it. How would they even know what foundation you used under it? If they ask, and it's not a Tempurpedic foundation, and you need to return it, tell them you used it on the floor. Also it might be firmer on the floor, so you may want to try that if you find it not so good on the foundation. Unfortunately my experience was that Temp. does not support one's back enough. YMVV. | I'm holding off my assessment until I get the convoluted topper. As you'll recall, Flobeds sent me the wrong sized topper. The new one is supposed to arrive today. |

The convoluted topper came yesterday and I unzipped the mattress cover and put it in. I'm not sure the convoluted topper offers any improvement over the 3 core layers. My back ached last night and this morning when I got up. My mattress is F/XF/XF. I don't expect my mattress to *solve* all of my back problems, but I do expect it not to *exacerbate* my back problems. While I *know* my old mattress was exacerbating my back problems, I don't know yet whether the Flobeds mattress also exacerbates my back issues. I'll give it a week and see how I feel then. |

Let me try and offer a word of encouragement if I can. What I am finding with my FloBeds is that it takes time for your body to adjust to the new feel. At first my bed on the firmer side felt quite firm indeed. In fact I had the exact same arrangement, on the firmer side of my King size bed, that you have. Namely, F/XF/XF. I have since changed that to M/XF/XF, and the other side is F/F/XF. Now it is hard to say which side I prefer. It just depends on how I am feeling through the night. All I can tell you is, as I have stated several times before, and thought about it again this morning when I didn't want to get out of bed, that I look forward to going to bed and I don't want to get out in the morning. The other thing that I would caution you about is that you strained your back when you had to move all of your bedding upstairs without any assistance. I can tell you from my own experience that putting one of these beds together, particularly by yourself, can be labor intensive and certainly puts a strain on your back because of all the bending over. So you definitely need to give it time Kimberly. Also, I have found, that my all natural Talalay tends to soften up in the hip area over time. I noticed this after having slept on it for about two weeks. It's not an unpleasant thing, in fact I rather enjoy it. It's not like a innerspring mattress that begins to collapse in the same area due to use, but rather like a conforming to your body type of experience. The only other thing that I can think of that might possibly be a help would be to change out a layer or two. For instance, you might try F/F/XF. or even a M/XF/XF. There are all kinds of combinations that might feel more pleasant to you. Am I to assume that you do not have a different configuration for one side of the bed as opposed to the other? I rather like having two different sides of the bed so that I can give it a better test. If I finally determine that I am sleeping all the time on one side of the bed, then I might possibly change them both to be exactly the same. But I don't think I'm going to do this. Kimberly, it sounds to me like it's too firm. Then again, you may be like me and your body just doesn't like all-foam beds and needs springs under it to give it that kind of support. But I think Eagle2 is right, too: you need to give it some more time - as painful as that may be (but not if it's TOO painful). Moving the mattress in to your bedroom and moving it around probably did hurt your back, so now you have that to contend with. Try to give it another week or two, but don't hesitate to call Flobeds with your problem. I am sure they will send out some softer or ? foam right away. I think they are very good at what they do and though they cannot please everyone -because some, like me, just cannot sleep on pure foam - they will do their best to make it work for you, and want you to call if you're not happy. |
