Hello All, I'm needing some help figuring out which type of mattress I need considering the following: The bed will be for my wife & myself. I weigh 330# (6') My wife weighs 200# (5'3) I have lumbar spinal stenosis, 2 herniated disks (L4 & L5), partial herniated disk (S1) and Degenerative Disk Disease My wife has no back issues. I'm a side sleeper, she's a side / stomach sleeper most of the times. We currently have a Tempur-pedic bed and I hate it. Every morning I wake up in agony.
I've read where a firm mattress would be the best for my lower back concerns, but I've also read where a firm plush mattress would be preferred too. Any suggestions on construction, brands, models would be greatly appreciated! BD |
buzznode: For a man of your weight and height you are going to need a very firm mattress in an effort to get the support that your spine needs. I am a big believer in FloBeds. I purchased one of their mattress last fall and have been very comfortable with it. Call FloBeds on their 800 number and talk to either Dave Turner or his son Dewey, they should be able to advise you what is the best kind of mattress for you. Sleep EZ is another possibility. Many including myself have been happy with Shawn and the whole Sleep EZ crew. See www.sleepez.com for more info. |
I agree with Eagle that with your height and weight you are going to need a very firm mattress. I am heavy, side sleeper, with severe back pain, and I have a Flobed with three layers of 36 ILD blended Talalay latex. It's very firm, but has enough resiliance to relieve any pressure points you may have while sleeping on your side. I also agree with Pianoman that Sleepez makes a good quality mattress. I would look at both websites, and phone both companies to discuss your height, weight, sleeping positions, and medical issues, and see what they say. Then you will be able to make some additional decisions with the information you've gained. |
buzznode,
I would go with a 8"-9" extra firm or firm Dunlop core and add some medium talalay on top. Call Sleepez and they will help you get the best deal. This message was modified Jun 11, 2010 by luke
