Hi, I have been looking for a new mattress and when I was researching Latex mattresses I found this site. I had already decided to try a latex mattress before coming here and from what I have read I am more convinced that is what I want. My husband noticed a new latex mattress listed on the Costco site and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I know it is new, but I thought maybe someone might have some comments that might help. Here are the highlights of the bed components - we would be getting a King size with the foundation and at $1499.99 it seems like a steal. I know we would be sacrificing the ability to customize the firmness on each side but is it worth $1000.00 for that??? Here are the list of latex layers - Four layers of 100% natural latex for unsurpassed comfort: Layer 1 – 1” 19 ILD natural latex – soft layer Layer 2 – 2” of 24 ILD natural latex – medium layer Layer 3 – 4” of 32 ILD natural latex – support layer Layer 4 – 3” of 24 ILD natural latex – medium layer Two mattresses in one! Due to its unique construction, the Sleep Science Natural Comfort Latex Mattress allows you to sleep on either the top or bottom of the mattress. Each side has been engineered for a slightly different feel, one softer than the other. The Sleep Science Natural Latex Mattress is two high quality mattresses in one. The mattress is delivered with layer 1 (softer sleep surface) on the top. For a firmer sleep surface, remove the mattress from the cover, flip the mattress, put the cover back on and enjoy a firmer sleep surface. 100% Natural Latex. Certified by the ECO-INSTITUT as 100% Dunlop processed natural latex. Sleep Science Natural Comfort 10” Latex mattress fits the dimensions of your bed Meets the requirements of 16 CFR Part 1633-Federal flammability (open flame) standards Limited Warranty: 20 years against manufacturer defects Hypoallergenic, antimicrobial and dust mite resistant This luxurious, health promoting mattress comes with a beautiful silk blend and micro-suede mattress cover Sleep Science Softness Scale – Soft/Medium on one side and Medium on the other Here is the link if you would like to look at all the info - http://www.costco.com/Browse/Productgroup.aspx?Prodid=11496053&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|93|4914|4916&N=4001838&Mo=39&pos=0&No=31&ViewAll=40&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4916&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC850-Cat4914&topnav= Thanks again for your help! Berty: I was wondering what foundation you are using, does it work well and built well? The pictures look nice, Thank You Any other suggestions to a good foundation for this mattress as I need one by March. I might change my order with costco to include foundation but I have been on backorder since Dec 30th and nervous that I might have to wait longer. Cant wait for my mattress!! |
I just noticed that one of the tags in the pictures posted says in a big square in big letters "This mattress is intended to be used without a foundation." OK, that led me to wonder a little about terminology. Is a "foundation" the same as "box springs." Are box springs a type of foundation but not the only type? If we're not supposed to use this with a foundation, what are we supposed to put the mattress on? It can't go directly onto a bed frame . . . Maybe it's just because I just woke up, but I'm confused. . . |
that is sort of a bizarre label. although I guess I have some law labels that say "Intended to be used without a foundation, OR with matching foundations". Really any solid level surface will be perfectly fine for this mattress, or a nice strong slat system. |
I spent two months researching mattresses, because I have a bad back and Rheumatoid arthritis, so it was extremely important to me to find a bed that I could sleep on. My husband suffers from allergies and asthma to deal with as well. My husband and I had a chance to sleep on a Tempurpedic mattress for a week at an upscale hotel and found it did not give us the comfort that we had expected. It took too long for my body to sink into the mattress and then I couldn't roll over without pain, because the mattress needs time to adjust to your new body position. The mattress felt hard when you'd initially lay on it, and it never seemed comfortable. So we knew we didn't want memory foam. I also had issues with innerspring mattresses just not giving me the support I needed. Though we did test those out as well and found a couple that felt pretty good, but after reading reviews those came out with bad reviews for overall durability. Cost was an issue too, we didn't want to spend 2000- 3000 dollars on a mattress and then be stuck with it if we didn't like it. Some stores had a return policy, but it was obviously going to be difficult to return. We had decided on latex after all the research and testing out all the local beds. I found the Sleep Science 100% Natural Latex Mattress on Costco’s website. We were a little nervous buying this online without actually getting to lay on it to test it out first, but I felt reassured with Costco’s excellent return policies. So, we bought just the queen size mattress and not the foundation on December 30th, it was delivered on Jan. 12th. The White Glove Service was excellent. They were careful in making sure they didn't bang into any walls and they set it up completely for me. I was thrilled that they did the set up, because it's a very heavy mattress and I could not imagine setting it up myself. We placed it directly on our old box spring and frame, which we reinforced with a 3/4 plywood sheet. We've been sleeping on the mattress for three weeks and we truly love it. We had read that latex mattresses might have an odor when first purchased, but there was no mattress odor at all. My husband likes a firm mattress and I like something softer. Before we received the mattress we thought we might have to turn the mattress over to the firm side. But after sleeping on it, the soft side of it is quite firm, maybe a little too firm for what’s considered the softer side. But, I find it very supportive and it has just a little spring. It forms comfortably to my body and it has helped my back issues. I haven't felt the overheated feeling that I had gotten with the memory foam mattress. Both my husband and I are extremely happy so far with our purchase. I suppose time will tell if it holds up, but so far so good!

piercesmom23, The bed that we have is a Room and Board model that is no longer carried. Its very similar to the Mackintosh Low Footboard Bed. The only difference is that the headboard part is curved rather than straight across. We actually bought the bed before the mattress. We weren't planning on latex until after the Costco one came out. The bed is all steel so its rock solid. The only problem, and it may be a big problem, is that the metal slats are more than 4.5 inches apart. I may need to purchase additional slats to prevent the mattress from sinking between them. When no one is on the mattress, the latex sinks very slightly between the slats. When I am laid out, the bulge is noticeable. To view the slat system on the bed, look up the Parsons Bed on the Room and Board site and scroll through the thumbnails. As for the label, I have no idea. Maybe the covers for the ones with their foundation are different? |
Hello, Been sleeping on the Costco Cal King latex mattress a couple weeks now and even after flipping it from the hard side to the soft side my wife doesn't sleep well on it. She says that she tosses and turns and finds herself waking up on her stomach and having her hands fall asleep. I have been sleeping ok on it although I too find myself tossing some but its mainly due to my restless leg syndrome I feel. I too wake up on my stomach which makes my back pretty sore 1st thing in the morning. Does anyone think that before we return it we should purchase a mattress topper to see if it would help? I really dont want to have to go back to a spring mattress but I have to be honest with everyone here and see if anyone else feels the same way. Thanks for all the good information. I know exactly what you mean about rolling to your stomach. It honestly does not happen much on this costco bed for me, but it used to happen a lot with my previous bed+latex topper. I have found that putting a thin layer of memory foam (1") is a big help in reducing the tendency to roll to your stomach. I would definitely give one a try before going through the hassle of returning, especially when you can get them from overstock.com (we got the greenish color 1" model) for well under $100. We are currently using it on top of our Costco latex bed now. it gives me the support I need, without too much rolling, and a little bit extra sink-in, to help reduce pressure on my shoulder. Side note... for anyone suffering from their arms falling asleep, your PILLOW can play a big role in that. try a slightly thicker pillow. If your neck starts to hurt, the pillow is too thick. trick is finding something in the middle :) This message was modified Feb 3, 2010 by jst4fun

i am putting the right temp topper from costco on, will let you know how it works it is thick, 3 inches, so might be too soft, dont know, it is amazing how much pain i have sleeping on the bellafina tempurpedic, and yet when you lay on them they feel like a million bucks |
Being that you have good basic support with the metal, you could put something like pegboard on it, this would enable it to still breath and would be more than adequate for spanning the 4.5 inches. |
