I still am in the market for a couple latex toppers. Overstock doesn't give much info about what exactly they are selling, and even if they did, there would seem to be reason to question the accuracy of what they say, Foambymail has some pretty cheap talalay, in choice of IDLs, but there are some reports of the stuff they sell not holding up well. Any other vendors I should be considering? I prefer cheap over places that offer exchanges, returns and so forth. |
I still see the talalay at rockymountain. They have the best deal on 100% natural by Latex International that I have found, if you want 24 or 32 ILD talalay. They have dunlop as well. Cheaper is foambymail, but I am less sure about the quality there. Jimsocal: sleeplikeabear now carries 20 ILD in natural talalay. But is expensive. They have softer blends as well. I am tempted to buy the 19ILD blend, because that is about what I think I could use.

Foamsource.com has natural latex, pricey too. Foamsweetfoam.com has natural talalay and it is 3" for $400 I believe. I was disappointed that Sleeplikeabear natural talalay prices were so high I have not heard O'stock selling used latex Jim, did you mean to say used, or seconds? Seconds perhaps, but not used. |
Oh, just remembered, the other thing I heard about foambymail.com is that their toppers run significantly undersized - say, 4"-5" short. An annoyance if you are trying going to use them as toppers (especially if you are tall and use the whole bed) and a real pain if you are trying to use them inside a mattress. |
Thanks for the Sleeplikeabear reminder. I always forget about those guys because usually their prices are a bit higher than others. Anyway, I took a look there and I found that they DO have 14ILD latex, in the Talatech! This sounds like a great way to try Talatech because the 14 is what this guy told me to get for my bad shoulder. 1" may not be enough but it's all I can afford any time soon. If I like it and it's not enough I'll order another 1" later. If you get the 19ILD we can compare notes. $113 for 1" Twin with Free shipping ain't bad at all, in fact it's a bargain. Leo, I may be confused on the O'Stock.com latex, too. But I could've sworn someone posted that they got a piece or pieces from them that looked used. For now, let's say not. If I get time I'll look through some old posts. Guess I'm just getting danged unreliable these days! Anyway, after that whole "fake" Venus foam episode, I am reluctant to buy foam from O'Stock. I may call them soon to see if they'll take my Venus back and give me a refund. Someone said they got a refund just by sending a photo of the foam? I'd be up for that...especially since I'm pretty sure I no longer have any proof I bought it there... |
Someone did say there were footprints on the O-stock latex (so it looked like) but I don't think she thought it was used, just handled badly! Lets hope it wasn't used! I don't think RM prices went up, I have been looking at their mattresses and they have a natural talalay (from LI) 9" queen size for $1389.95. It is zoned core 7" with 2" topper with firmness of your choice. That's not too bad. They also have a Dunlop (Latex Green) that is 7" (probably not thick enough). Check it out. Foamsweetfoam also has zoned latex mattresses (I think, it does get confusing). |
Leo, if you wanna bet, I'll bet that RM's prices FOR TOPPERS did go up, at least for the Natural Talalay topper. In fact if you look carefully they even still have a price marked $5 cheaper on one page, but then it has the higher price right below it. See here: http://www.rockymountainmattress.com/talalaylatextoppermediumplush-p-86.html It says "starting at $104.95" but then right below in the menu the lowest price is $109.95. And I could be wrong, but I THINK before it started at $99.95. Not sure about that, though. In any case it's a fair price with free shipping. |
These guys seem to have good prices. They carry toppers in 22 ILD, but perhaps they would special order one for you. http://www.latexmattresscompany.com/latex-mattress-toppers.html |
At the time I also had a 5% off coupon. Not sure if that is still available. I think demand is going up for the 100% natural talalay, so their new purchases might be coming in at higher costs from Latex International. |
I don't see why Sleeplikeabear is $538 for the natural talalay, that is steep. Foamsource is $529. That is too bad RM raised their prices, also too bad they don't have higher ILDs. I may say the heck with natural and get blended latex While I am complaining, why is it that they only sell the queen size in glued pieces? When I know LI does make queen size sheets now. On Sleeplikeabear website they say they can get a piece without glue but it costs extra, huh??? I get tired of prices going up and no extra money coming in. Where do they think we are getting extra money to pay these high prices? Have they heard of competition and fair pricing? The longer I procrastinate and decide what to do the more likely I won't be able to pay the high prices they want. This message was modified Apr 11, 2010 by Leo3

I sympathize with you Leo. I can't afford the 1" Talalay layer I want right now, either. My wife keeps saying why is it these businesses around town don't seem to realize that we're in a recession? Actually, we're personally in more of an economic depression. I guess whether one thinks it's a recession or a depression depends on if you're working or if you've been out of work for some time... Sandman thanks for letting us know RM DID raise their prices. I was beginning to think I might be nuts. Glad to see my memory wasn't wrong, after all. I wonder if LI raised their prices. I know one thing is that shipping seems to be going up and up at most places, so maybe their free shipping caused the price changes. |
