I am going to have Workers Comp buy me a new bed. (No..they are not happy!) I cannot get a decent nights sleep in my 85% wave-less waterbed anymore and it is he!! to get into and out of. I have been using it (with mattress changes) for 20 years. I am going with a adjustable frame because of the low back issues, but what to put on top of it? I am over 300lbs and need medium support. I don't want anything to put stress on the hips but need support for the spine. I live in a small town so trying this stuff out is not an option easily done and can't afford the return costs on those "free" trials. So I gotta pick it right from pure investigation. I have ruled out the Sleep-number (leakage) and the Tempurpedic (compression and bottoming out). I guess latex is the next to consider?
Any suggestions are welcome....or in fact...much needed!

Both my Doctors support my getting out of the waterbed as it causes flair-ups because of lack of support. There is court precedence to support the need for a good bed for injured workers. My case was settled 25 years ago. I am in CA. |
Yes I would consider latex. Since you can't try it before you buy it, I'd recommend somewhere like SleepEZ. They ship you the latex and a cover. You can get a variety of latex firmnesses, and even types (ie you could get some Talalay and some Dunlop pieces). You can split the latex so the left and right side of the bed are different (for experimenting, or for different sleep positions). Their warranty is quite good; "100% MONEY BACK REFUND, NO RESTOCKING FEE, CUSTOMER PAYS RETURN SHIPPING ONLY." You are allowed to swap 1 layer for free (well, you would have to pay $30 for shipping it back). Shawn (the guy that runs the place) seems pretty knowledgeable, I'd call him and tell him your needs and see what he says. My guess is he will recommend Dunlop (slightly firmer and seems to be better for heavy people) in a 3-layer config (soft over medium over firm, or maybe medium over firm over extrafirm, depending on what sleep position you prefer). He may also recommend a 4 layer bed which might also be better for you due to weight. I'm not sure its really worth it, but if you're not paying... I just posted a list of companies doing this on another thread today. There are many other companies doing this, I just don't know their warranty info. I recommend reading thru some of the posts about Sleepez anf investigating some of the competition before calling... |
Thanks St3v3, I did some research on the Dunlop and Talalay processes. Since this has to be done by the insurance co. facilitator I need to be able to say _______ is what I want in frames and _______ in mattress. I am a side sleeper so I should look at a 3 layer soft, med., firm combo? I wonder if there is someplace in the nearby cities that carry any that would be worth the pain and expense to travel to. I will look into your referrals.
