After extensive Internet research (including this forum), we ordered this from SleepEz: Select Sleep Cal-King 13,000 100% Natural Talalay Latex Mattress my side:Soft/Medium/Firm/Firm husbands side:Medium/Firm/XFirm/Xfirm Some days we woke up fine, other days my lower back was throbbing in pain and husband felt "achy all over" (he said he never felt like this on any other mattress and he travels alot). I tried his side and it seemed way too firm for me. We also tried different layer combos from the above. I was confused on keeping it or not because some days we felt fine, but the 90days was running out and I got nervous, so we returned it. I keep thinking maybe we should have kept it and tried other layer combos, but I honestly don't have a lot of time/patience for that and I get confused thinking about all the different possible combos. I'm so dissapointed, I love the idea of Latex because its natural, durable and less prone to dust mites (husband is allergic), but now what? I'm thinking a firm/med firm basic high quality spring mattress and adding latex toppers if needed to soften it. but which innerspring and where to purchase? The more reviews I read, the more confused I get. I know all the "s" brands are poor quality and I hate the idea of buying from Sit N Sleep or some other sleezy mattress store. all the recommendations say "buy from somewhere w/a good return policy", but I havent found this w/regard to mattresses except Costco and some online latex mattress sellers. so my questions are:
I feel stuck and don't know what to do! For various reasons, we don't have an old mattress we can use and are sleeping on an Aero bed. I have no "plan of action" and no idea what to try next which is really stressing me out. Thanks for any advice. Deborah |
thanks for the replies folks!
valpar3 - checked out Custom Sleep Design and put my measurements in but haven't received anything yet. Any idea how long this takes? also, i couldn't tell from their website if you can get different layers on each side of a king size, (I think this is called "split cores"...do you know? i'm sure my husband and I probably need different layers...
jeff8407 - where did you get your latex? if you dont mind sharing what configuration did you end up with and what are your wants for a mattress? (side, back, sleeper, etc). i know its different for everyone but I'm trying to find people who may have similar needs in a mattress and what worked for them...i think i basically want good firmish support for my back with a little bit of softness or 'cush' on top (doesnt have to be too soft or "pillowy". has anyone tried a latex over innerspring combo and is willing to share the details? I've searched this forum for previous posts about this, but I'm not finding any specifics or details on what people actually bought and tried. I'm going to check out the innersprings at Macy's tonight. i would like to order from Costco b/c of their return policy, but they dont have much selection of firm to med firm innersprings in Cal King size...Sealy mostly. Plus i think JimSocal on this forum bought one of the Sealys from costco (or it may have been another innerspring but it was Costco) and said it was filled with really cheap foam, so that makes me hesitate.....i guess its low risk if you can return it but i dont want to end up searching again in 5 months, this is hellish!!!

Deborah - don't know if you got your mattress or not but in answer to your question, Custom Sleep Designs can customize the bed side to side as well. I am getting a king size from them and that is what I am doing as well as customing from head to foot. I should be getting mine in the next few weeks - I actually went to their showroom in Connecticut to check it out. It was a very rewarding experience - the people could not have been nicer - I spent 2 hours in there trying out beds before we came up with a comfort design plan that will work for me. Good luck!
