MY FLOBED CAME!

Whew! The Flobed arrived this afternoon in 3 boxes! I got all the pieces out and checked them to be sure I got everything ordered. I couldn't put it together right away because I was waiting on a foundation to be delivered. They finally brought the foundation around 6:30, so I got to work! Originally I intended to take pictures of the process, but then my DH came home and announced he wasn't helping, so I huffed all the pieces upstairs, laid out the cover as instructed, and began taking out the individual layers. Aside from each piece being heavy and unwieldly, it really wasn't too difficult to get the layers on the mattress cover. and adjust them. I did have to stop and take a 10 minute break after getting the first 2 layers on the bed (4 pieces). Layer 3 went on . . .and then the topper! That's where I ran into a little snag. I put the soft covoluted top layer on, and it's waaaay too big! It's marked a queen, but I'm pretty sure it's a king, lol. I get it lined up top to bottom and along one edge, and it overhangs the other side by about a foot! So . . .temporarily, I folded that piece up and set it aside and zipped up the other 3 layers into the cover. First impressions are, this bed is amazingly comfortable! I was worried about getting a firm/xfirm/xfirm, and I'll have to sleep on it a few nights, but oh la la! It's comfortable just to lie on. Very supportive, springy and bouncy, but not hard. Tomorrow I'll have to call Dewey and have a chat about the top layer. What I'd like is permission to just cut that piece to size without losing my 90 money back guarantee. I've been waiting so long for a comfortable mattress, I don't want to mail this one back and wait for another convoluted piece. If he says ok, I'll trim it down, unzip the cover, put the convoluted layer on . . . and ahhhhhh. I'll do as Eagle and report back on my experiences with my Flobed, though maybe not in the same precise detail. I can't wait to go to bed! |

| Congratulations on finally getting it! It's a bummer that the top layer is the wrong size. I hope you don't have to wait to get the right size. Which model did you get? I have a Vzone on it's way. |

Well, congratulations Kimberly!!  I'm so glad to hear everything finally arrived. Yes it is a bummer that they sent the wrong convoluted layer. But I'm sure Dewey Turner, or Dave, will work with you to keep you happy.I'm sure you're going to enjoy a very good nights sleep. Talk to you later. Oh Yes, and by the way. When you get your proper convoluted layer installed, I believe you will find your new bed just that much more comfortable. I'm so happy for you Kimberly, that you're finally on your way to achieving what we all want and deserve. A really great mattress so that we can enjoy a really great nights sleep! I got the Posture Deluxe model. I thought about getting the VZone, but . . . . well I thought I'd have enough on my plate dealing with six latex variables (3 on each side) without the added complication of a zoned layer. First night's report - whew! the latex really smells. I know this will dissipate quickly, it's not necessarily an unpleasant smell, nor is it overpowering, but it has a slightly sweet, rubbery smell. I had to sleep my first night without the top convoluted latex layer, as Flobeds sent me a convoluted layer that's way bigger than queen size. Even without the topper, the bed was quite comfortable to sleep on. I did wake up with a killer backache, but I am attributing that to the fact that last night I had to upack all 8 pieces from their boxes myself, lug them up the stairs myself, take them out of their plastic wrappings myself, and wrangle them onto the foundation myself and get them all adjusted into place myself. Each of these pieces weighs 20-25 lbs, times 7 pieces - tough on the 'ole back. However, I love the the feel of the latex mattress and I'm glad now that I didn't just go the easy route and get a Tempurpedic (although, I do like Tempurpedics, that would have been a fine choice too). UPDATE: I just talked to Dave or Dewey about my convoluted latex top layer. They had me measure out the width and confirmed that even though the topper is labeled QUEEN it is a KING. They are shipping me a new topper with a return label for the current topper, and extending my 90 day return period to 100 days. Kimberly: I am so glad you got it all put together and had a good nights sleep. I would definitely concur with your assumption that all the unloading of all that material, carting it up stairs and taking it out of those plastic bags(no easy thing, in and of itself) is more than likely the cause for your backache. When the wife and I did my bed, we had to drag out the old waterbed mattress. Unfortunately I did not get all the water out of it(failed to rent a water pump) and we had about 100 pounds of water left in the mattress. No fun, at all! I am curious about your odor from the mattress. Didn't you say you were purchasing the blended product? The reason I ask is that the order from the all natural that I purchased was rather pleasant and quite mild. It has a slightly sweet odor something like cookie dough. I rather like it, no rubber smell at all. As I assured you both Dave and his son Dewey are quite accommodating even in situations that aren't their fault. In this case it most assuredly was there fault, and they of course are doing the right thing by you. Yes, keep us posted how you progress. The longer I sleep on my mattress the better I like it. |

| are you people buying their foundations too? i have a newer Serta Perfect Sleeper Ca King box springs and it seems to be built very similar to the foundatins flobeds offer |

Eagle, yes, I did buy the blended talalay and yes, I would characterize the odor as somewhat sweet, it was not at all unpleasant. It was just there. Actually, by the morning I didn't notice it anymore. Randy, I did not purchase the Flobeds foundation. I bought a regular foundation for $250 from a local mattress store. If you have a foundation in fine condition then I see no reason why you should buy a new foundation to go with your bed. Your old one should be just fine. On the Flobeds order form there is an optional box to say you don't need a new foundation because you already have a foundation in good condition. Please be wary though, of purchasing a Tempurpedic mattress and using the current foundation with it. From all the reading I've done on customer comments, I would be suspicious that Tempurpedic might not honor any warranty claim if the bed was not placed on a Tempurpedic foundation. Which is kind of silly because the Tempurpedic frame 1) looks really cheap and 2) costs a lot - $400 if I remember correctly. |

yeah, i kinda already resigned myself to getting the foundation if i get tempur but if i go flo i didnt want to if dont have to so wont now looking forward to tomorrow, i am getting very conflicting info on the HD material tempur uses...long story but i assumed it would make for a firmer feel, but 3 different reps at tempur have all told me yes and no, it actually allows for a deeper crater, that could be a problem for my back and my back is the only reason I am going thru this craziness thanx for responding p.s. YOU got the 2 layer flobed, right? does this mean you are only sending back one of the two layers if you want to change firmness or are both in play? This message was modified Oct 16, 2009 by randys

Actually, by the morning I didn't notice it anymore." My assumption is that the excessive odor that you referred to, earlier in this thread, is due to the fact that it is a blended product. What alerted me was your comment that it smells like rubber. The rubber smell that we have learned to associate with rubber, or what we call rubber, is due to petrochemical involvement in the manufacture of these products. After unpacking my bed and smelling actual 100% natural botanically grown Talalay latex, and detecting this sweet cookie dough like odor, was the first time I had actually smelled natural rubber. I'm sure that once your mattress has aired out somewhat, this order will go away. The odor I associate with my mattress is already diminishing considerably. I kind of hate to have it leave, actually. I bought this bed: http://www.flobeds.com/product_details.htm?ID=6080TW It has three, 3" base layers plus a 2" top layer of soft convoluted foam. So it has four layers total, and the bottom three layers are the ones I have the option of switching around if I want during the 90 day period. My layers are firm (32 ILD) over extra firm (36 ILD) over extra firm (36 ILD). I could exchange any one or all of these layers as many times as I want during the 90 day period. On top of those three layers is the two inch convoluted soft layer. |

We used our Tempurpedic on the floor and were allowed to return it. How would they even know what foundation you used under it? If they ask, and it's not a Tempurpedic foundation, and you need to return it, tell them you used it on the floor. Also it might be firmer on the floor, so you may want to try that if you find it not so good on the foundation. Unfortunately my experience was that Temp. does not support one's back enough. YMVV.
