MY FLOBED CAME!

Whew!  The Flobed arrived this afternoon in 3 boxes!  I got all the pieces out and checked them to be sure I got everything ordered.  I couldn't put it together right away because I was waiting on a foundation to be delivered.  They finally brought the foundation around 6:30, so I got to work!

Originally I intended to take pictures of the process, but then my DH came home and announced he wasn't helping, so I huffed all the pieces upstairs, laid out the cover as instructed, and began taking out the individual layers.

Aside from each piece being heavy and unwieldly, it really wasn't too difficult to get the layers on the mattress cover. and adjust them.  I did have to stop and take a 10 minute break after getting the first 2 layers on the bed (4 pieces).  Layer 3 went on . . .and then the topper!  That's where I ran into a little snag.

I put the soft covoluted top layer on, and it's waaaay too big!  It's marked a queen, but I'm pretty sure it's a king, lol.  I get it lined up top to bottom and along one edge, and it overhangs the other side by about a foot!

So . .  .temporarily, I folded that piece up and set it aside and zipped up the other 3 layers into the cover.

First impressions are, this bed is amazingly comfortable!  I was worried about getting a firm/xfirm/xfirm, and I'll have to sleep on it a few nights, but oh la la!  It's comfortable just to lie on.  Very supportive, springy and bouncy, but not hard.

Tomorrow I'll have to call Dewey and have a chat about the top layer.  What I'd like is permission to just cut that piece to size without losing my 90 money back guarantee.  I've been waiting so long for a comfortable mattress, I don't want to mail this one back and wait for another convoluted piece.  If he says ok, I'll trim it down, unzip the cover, put the convoluted layer on . . . and ahhhhhh.

I'll do as Eagle and report back on my experiences with my Flobed, though maybe not in the same precise detail.  I can't wait to go to bed!

Wow, I just saw my last post and the paragraph formatting didn't go through. Don't know why, but it sure makes it unreadable. Sorry for those of you who persisted through it. Anyway, I just tried to edit it and put doublespace between paragraphs and have no idea why it's still coming out as one long paragraph. If anyone can help, let me know and I'll try again so it's more readable. Kimberly, I did try the zoned layer but it didn't seem to work for me... The second night I was on it I woke up with terrible pain; I think cause I had moved off the "correct" zone and gotten twisted or something. I don't know, Perhaps I should have given it a longer try, but I just felt it wasn't for me (which is what I felt in the beginning and so didn't order it with the bed originally). Good luck with tweaking your bed, and I hope your husband ends up liking it. I know my husband got tired of hearing about bed stuff during my decision-making process and then with shifting around the layers... Well as I said, it's not perfect, but I think that's primarily cause of my health issues.... it's very good, given those, though, and waaaaayyy better than any other bed I've ever had. I'm hoping to get adjusted to sleeping on my back which will help I think.

Linda: I can't imagine what the problem is with the formatting, as I have not had any problems using Firefox.

I avoided the zoned FlowBeds due to the same problem that others have mentioned regarding, "making up my ever loving mind" about what firmness I was going to want. Given the experience I've had so far, I feel confident I made the right choice by avoiding zoning.

I am going to try something next week that I've been quite interested in for some time now.  I have ordered a firm layer of blended latex. I will be able to roll back and forth, from one side of my California King to the other, and check out how I like a blended piece of firm, compared to a 100% botanically grown natural firm piece of latex. It will be worth the trouble to actually have my own laboratory and check this difference out. I will be sure to report back and let everyone know what I think.

Linda, keep the faith and just keep on trying till you find the proper firmness for you. This is the luxury that we who have purchased from FlowBeds have. I can't help but feel some of the criticism that we have endured lately from folks who seem to think that those of us who post possibly about FlowBeds, are shills, is due to the fact that they are a little envious of our ability to have access to this generous exchange policy. I know I have paid more to FloBeds than I would have had to pay to some other niche market latex suppliers. But it was worth it to me to have the generous exchange policy, and return policy, given the fact that our mattresses were purchased over the Internet.

Thanks for your comments Eagle. I see that my second post is also coming through as one long paragraph. Earlier today I updated my browser (Safari) to the latest so I don't know if that could have something to do with it...? Strange, as I know my earlier posts to the group didn't have this problem. I have enough different layers to try many combinations (and have done so) and the two I described seem to be the best and the ones that I've returned to over and over again. As at this point, I am hoping I can learn to sleep on my back (the bed is quite comfortable that way) and that some health issues will perhaps shift for the better (they've been even worse as of late)... If anyone has experience with wool mattress pads, and have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks. I'm posting this as 4 paragraphs, but unfortunately it will probably come through as one long one. Oh, just had an idea to try; will see if that works. Sorry to any of you reading this if it doesn't. Then off to bed. It's late! Linda

Linda: I'm guessing you're formatting problems have something to do with the way your browser is set up. This business of updating can cause all kinds of problems in the computer world. Believe me! I know what I'm talking about. I've been going through it today. Don't ask!

Look within your browser regarding formatting. You should find something there. Just a guess, I'm no computer Guru, and that's a fact.

One thing you might try before going to bed. Do some mild and gentle stretching exercises. Particularly on the floor laying on your back. I have had back trouble for years, a lot more when I played tennis. My knee went and had to give up the sport.

But one exercise that helped my back was laying on the floor on my back and pulling my knees up and then rolling forward and backward and side to side. Just do something to stretch out the muscles and ligaments so that you can relax when you go to bed. Just don't overdo it.

Good luck, you have my best wishes!

Kimberly said, "First night's report - whew!  the latex really smells.  I know this will dissipate quickly, it's not necessarily an unpleasant smell, nor is it overpowering, but it has a slightly sweet, rubbery smell."

"Eagle, yes, I did buy the blended talalay and yes, I would characterize the odor as somewhat sweet, it was not at all unpleasant.  It was just there.  Actually, by the morning I didn't notice it anymore."

My assumption is that the excessive odor that you referred to, earlier in this thread, is due to the fact that it is a blended product.

What alerted me was your comment that it smells like rubber. The rubber smell that we have learned to associate with rubber, or what we call rubber, is due to petrochemical involvement in the manufacture of these products. After unpacking my bed and smelling actual 100% natural botanically grown Talalay latex, and detecting this sweet cookie dough like odor, was the first time I had actually smelled natural rubber.

I'm sure that once your mattress has aired out somewhat, this order will go away. The odor I associate with my mattress is already diminishing considerably. I kind of hate to have it leave, actually. I've grown to rather like it.

Thank you for this information.  I am very sensitive to chemical odors (i even once had an electronic keyboard that had an odor new out of the box, that still bothered me 6 months after airing out- that no one else seemed to notice).  So if I go latex I will try to splurge on 100% botanically grown latex.

What the mind does to memory.  I see that I reported it really smelled.  Now I don't remember the smell being overpowering at all.  But yes, sounds like you might be better off with the 100% botanically grown latex.  I just got a new layer the other day from Flobeds, and I didn't notice any smell at all from it.

BTW, I asked my husband this morning about the bed.  He says he likes it a lot, and he doesn't think his sleep issues are related to the mattress in any way.  So that answers that question.

Jason: I will be receiving a blended piece of latex by the first part of next week. As soon as I unpack it I should have a much better idea of the difference between the odor of 100% botanically grown latex and blended latex. I will report back on my findings.

You spoke in another thread about the requirements of returning a FloBeds piece of latex for an exchange, and how there return policy works for a refund.

I will try to address that for you.

When you order a replacement piece of latex you can give them your credit card number for the cost of the return shipping and they will send along a return shipping label. All you have to do is unpack the new layer of latex, put the old layer of latex in the packaging that you just received, put the label on the box and take it to a UPS station and turn it over to them. One process that seems complicated but isn't, is using your vacuum cleaner to suck the air out of the return piece of latex. Latex is such that you can reduce its size by about two thirds by removing the air from the package. This is how the packages are sent to you, with the air removed.

If you decide you do not like the bed during the 90 day, and want your money back give FloBeds a call and discuss it with them. Once they have exhausted all avenues of satisfaction for you and you still want your money back, you simply pay the shipping charges back to FloBeds, once they receive the returned mattress and inspect it for any damage, if there is no damage and the bed is acceptable to them, they will credit your card. That is all there is to it is my understanding.
