Hi, I have been looking for a new mattress and when I was researching Latex mattresses I found this site. I had already decided to try a latex mattress before coming here and from what I have read I am more convinced that is what I want. My husband noticed a new latex mattress listed on the Costco site and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I know it is new, but I thought maybe someone might have some comments that might help. Here are the highlights of the bed components - we would be getting a King size with the foundation and at $1499.99 it seems like a steal. I know we would be sacrificing the ability to customize the firmness on each side but is it worth $1000.00 for that??? Here are the list of latex layers - Four layers of 100% natural latex for unsurpassed comfort: Layer 1 – 1” 19 ILD natural latex – soft layer Layer 2 – 2” of 24 ILD natural latex – medium layer Layer 3 – 4” of 32 ILD natural latex – support layer Layer 4 – 3” of 24 ILD natural latex – medium layer Two mattresses in one! Due to its unique construction, the Sleep Science Natural Comfort Latex Mattress allows you to sleep on either the top or bottom of the mattress. Each side has been engineered for a slightly different feel, one softer than the other. The Sleep Science Natural Latex Mattress is two high quality mattresses in one. The mattress is delivered with layer 1 (softer sleep surface) on the top. For a firmer sleep surface, remove the mattress from the cover, flip the mattress, put the cover back on and enjoy a firmer sleep surface. 100% Natural Latex. Certified by the ECO-INSTITUT as 100% Dunlop processed natural latex. Sleep Science Natural Comfort 10” Latex mattress fits the dimensions of your bed Meets the requirements of 16 CFR Part 1633-Federal flammability (open flame) standards Limited Warranty: 20 years against manufacturer defects Hypoallergenic, antimicrobial and dust mite resistant This luxurious, health promoting mattress comes with a beautiful silk blend and micro-suede mattress cover Sleep Science Softness Scale – Soft/Medium on one side and Medium on the other Here is the link if you would like to look at all the info - http://www.costco.com/Browse/Productgroup.aspx?Prodid=11496053&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|93|4914|4916&N=4001838&Mo=39&pos=0&No=31&ViewAll=40&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4916&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC850-Cat4914&topnav= Thanks again for your help! I am so glad I found this forum! Brenda |
Thank you jst4fun you are the man; great detective work. I just got home from work and did some investigating also and discovered that the latex mattress came delivered FIRM side up as I can see the 1" layer on the bottom and and around a 2" layer above that. I am going to take the cover off and flip it over with the help of a friend. I wish I would have known about this earlier before I spent hours of research on a mattress topper to make my wife happy. Hopefully flipping it will help. Thanks again. |
it has been 2 weeks since we have slept on this costco latex mattress and i agree with most of the evaluations given by jst4fun and keller30. because of the helpful information given on this forum i also feel obligated to contribute my experiences. the bed does feel FIRM, but still more comfortable than any other mattress we have had. i have pain issues with ruptured disc in the spine and other aging infirmities and the support given by this new mattress is excellent. of course, i don't know how much of the relief of pain can be attributed to some other things i am trying. suffice to say that we are pleased with our purchase. we might be even more pleased to find out that the bed can be softer if we flip it over. but i think it is on the right side. we don't have the strength to fip the flipping thing around. i didn't know enough to ask the delivery people to take away the old mattress, so i'm paying a lot more to get rid of it. our fair city has suspended free pick up services. for future shoppers, keep studying this forum for great ideas. thank you, all. |
They only have twin left but if I read this site correct two twins equal a king? |
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/E.C.O.-8-inch-Latex-Twin-size-Mattress/3227638/product.html?keywords=latex%208%20inch%20mattress&searchtype=Header you mean this product right here? yeah, the mattress is 8 inches thick, and does contain latex. but here is their info on it: ECO latex twin mattress is made from 2-inches of natural latex on 6-inches of high density foam for a comfortable and restful nights sleep. I cannot find any other latex mattresses on overstock other than this and the 10 inch version which also only contains 2 inches of latex on the base core. |
Hi popo: Let me know how this latex mattress is working. Does it feel soft - do you go down say 2 inches when you sleep on the mattress? or is it very firm? Do you sleep on the side? and if you do, do your shoulders hurt when you sleep on latex mattress from costco? Is the mattress hot? do you use a mattress pad on it? thanks popo |
we're pretty satisfied with this mattress. it does not feel soft at first but it seems to be getting softer. it definitely does not sink 2 inches, but the body feels supported at the necessary places, so the firmness is comfortable.. we sleep mostly on our sides. the shoulders and neck do hurt if we fall asleep tense and the posture is badly aligned or the pillow is throwing the neck off. the mattress is not hot, so far. we covered the mattress with a very light waterproof polyester protector bought at Target for $15.. my husband weighs 165 and i weigh 102. there was a tendency for me to roll towards him, but thast was easily remedied by stuffing a few towels under the mattress on his side. we are using our old box springs with a 3/4 in plyboard. i'm sorry to hear about your back pains. right now i'm between periods of suffering aches and pain. it's crazy what works sometimes and i try anything non-toxic. may you find relief and a good night's sleep. the costco deal is worth waiting for especially when their return policy is outstanding. good luck and happy new year. |
hi, lowbacpain,
Well, we're knowledgeable enough to know that the "latex" mattresses you're touting on Overstock are not latex mattresses. They are PU foam mattresses with 2" of latex on top. There really is a lot of information out there on the web. A lot of us have thoroughly researched the web in addition to sharing our experiences on this forum. Of course, some people just come on and say, "My back hurts, what should I get?" and those people don't get much help on the forum - I think everyone who's done their homework expects everyone else to do theirs too. |
We flipped the mattress about 3 nights ago. There is quiet the difference between the soft side and firm side. Loving the firm side! My husband and I are both side/back sleepers. I think my husband still prefers the Novaform Pure Comfort but I am in love with this latex mattress! While the firm side is much firmer than the other side I do not find it as firm as our old spring mattress (Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel). I can still notice a very faint latex smell but it is not strong at all. I really like the instant recovery of the latex when compared to the memory foam. I also found that I need a thinner pillow since changing mattresses. Another plus with this mattress, my cat doesn’t seem to like the feel of it. Therefore, more leg room for me as she’s no longer sleeping with us! forgot to mention, I am not having ANY problems with it being hot. That was my biggest problem with the memory foam. It keeps an even temperature all night. I also find that the latex isn’t as cold as the foam when I first climb in. This message was modified Jan 28, 2010 by becky

I have to say, I'm astounded that such an inexpensive mattress made in China (those two things make me suspicious) is receiving such great reviews. Maybe I missed a great bargain, and I'll be watching for them to come back to Costco. Still need a new bed for my daughter. |
We've been sleeping on this bed for a month now. We love it! |
