Hi all,

My gf and I have been sleeping on our bottom-of-the-line Ikea innerspring mattress for about 3 years and we just cant take it anymore.  It's sagged and I always find myself feeling springs in my back.  Recently back pains have developed and it's definitely time to make a change.  I've done some research and latex seems to be a great choice for us.  Memory foam isn't for us based on some things i've read, and I think latex would be a comfortable transition that would hopefully result in some sweet dreams.

I'm sure I dont have to say this, but it's very overwhelming being presented with all the retailers/options and for a deal-hunter like myself, I'm struggling to get started.  I do know that latex can be a bit costly and I probably have to stay under $1000 for a set.  I've read a lot of good things on this forum about SleepEZ, but it seems they might be out of our price range.  I'm open to other options besides an all-latex mattress - what's really important to me is that this will last us quite a few years, and we wont be sinking into it like we are now with the $200 ikea mattress.

I'm located in Northern NJ and would be open to sampling some mattresses in stores, but would also buy online if the value was right.  ANYTHING would be better than what we're sleeping on now, so I'm eager to spend.

If anyone can help or provide any product/retailer suggestions I'd be most grateful.

Thanks!

Ryan

I've been doing some more reading and I'm starting to think a DIY mattress would be good for my budget.  I'm definitley open to giving it a shot and getting some latex on top of some foam.  Any suggested configurations?  I'm 6'2" 185, the gf is small, 5'4", 120.

These are the ones I know about that are reasonably close to you. The first thing I would do is to use these as testing grounds to get a sense of the layering that gives you the feel you like, and the pressure relief and support you need. $1000 is right at the borderline for a latex mattress in queen but your testing would also tell you what works in latex over springs or poly as well should you need to go in that direction.

There are more if you are willing to go farther afield or into NY but these should give you lots of testing grounds.

Good luck

http://theorganicnest.com/storeinfo.php Retailer. Carries Dunlop latex mattresses which look like land and sky models.

http://www.mattressstorenyc.com/default.asp Doesn't look like they carry any all latex but they could carry latex over poly or innersprings.

http://www.lemoynesleeper.com/locations.html Regional manufacturer that has outlets in NJ that seem reasonably close. Manufactures all latex and other latex options.

http://www.chiromatic.com/ Local manufacturer. Makes latex mattresses. Looks like you need an "appointment" to see them which implies "expensive" and possible pressure. May be worth a call.
