Shawn recommended F/M/S so I went with that, but I just spent some time on a ReNu bed (latex layers on top soy foam). I was told it was medium firmness, and it felt perfect. Not too hard, not too smushy with plenty of support. They had one firmer and one softer, both felt wrong to me. The salesman couldn't tell me anything about the firmness level of the latex, which there really is NOT much of anyway, but this, plus reading of other people's recent latex bed purchases, I'm wondering if I would be better off with XF/F/M. This is the natural Talalay, btw. I'd be interested to know how others were able to choose what was best for them before trying, and how they fared.
Also - twin XL sheets and mattress protectors are almost impossible to find in stores around here! |

Hey thanks, those do look nice.
I'm wrestling with myself this morning, thinking maybe I should change my order, or maybe even upgrade to the 13,000 for the flexibility of adding an extra firm layer in there. Also, for fututre-proofing against the very real possibility of more middle-age weight gain.

Cynicaljones, well you had better decide quick because they probably already are shipping it out today! You can always order more latex layers later, but your mattress cover will not hold it! You can put it over the mattress cover if desperate, but you better decide quick if you want it inside the cover. Good luck. You sound like me making decisions, I did that in school with tests too. If I changed the answer after I decided it was wrong I usually was wrong and shouldn't have changed my mind. It would be nice to have all the answers and know the right thing to do, but I usually don't know..... |
| Yes, I was sort of too late. It hadn't left yet, but was boxed and ready to go. I'm going to just stay with what I've got and have a nice weekend NOT worrying about my soon-to-be bed. |

Hey, been offline for a few days but just noticed you ordered a Sleepez! The configuration you ordered is the same one I got for my daughter. She is liking it better now, finds it comfortable, and I hope you will like yours as well! I wouldn't worry too much about your initial order. The beauty of these mattress kits is that you will be able to make an adjustment if you need to. It's a fine bed and should give you many years of comfortable sleep. Once you get the bed, may I suggest you sleep on it for at least 1-2 weeks before making a decision about whether it is too firm. Our bodies need some time to adjust to the new sleep surface. Let us know when you receive it and keep us posted on how you're getting along with it. |

There is just no way of knowing. We got our latex mattress from SleepEz too, Shaun is so easy to work with. He is definetyly a good business man. I never heard of a company that cares so much after the purchased was made. anyways, My mattress is driving me and my husband crazy. We can't figure out what combination works for us yet. I had soft over soft over medium, but now have soft over medium over firm. I think that top layer of talalay is just too soft. My husband decided to sleep on soft over firm over extra firm. I wish he would have his side like mine, because lately I have the bed all too myself since my new baby must be nursed all night long. I am forced to sleep on his too firm side when I nurse the baby. But then I think I wake up feeling better on his side. I afraid I won't even know what combination works for me. It's wasn't easy to change this thing around when we had the cover that had a zipper on the bottom then you had to flip the whole heavy thing!. Shaun sent me out a better cover, with zipper on top, but now I cannot feel the latex as much. I have a hate love relationship with my mattress, but I am not willing to give it up. I hope you find the comfort you are looking for better than I have. I already had lower back pain from my epidural, and after this bed, it got worse. But I felt worse for my husband who now has lower back pain from this mattress, because I was the one that recommended latex.

You'll be surprised. My own back feels best with XF/XF/XF (all layers 36 ILD, and I have a 2" soft convoluted topper on top of those layers). |

Roy, the ideal mattress firmness for you can't be determined by anyone over the internet. You have to talk with a mattress company, such as Flobeds or Sleepez, discuss your height/weight/sleeping position and your back issues with them for an expert recommendation, start with that and adjust based on your experience. But speaking in generalities, and after having spent months reviewing the comments of people with back issues, and from my own personal experience, I would say that anyone who has severe back pain issues will do better with a firmer mattress. We need the support that firm mattresses offer. Another factor is your sleeping position. Side sleepers like me often need pain relief from pressure points, such as the hip and shoulder areas. When I got my latex mattress, I wanted it soft. Flobeds recommended a firmer configuration than I believed I wanted. I went with their recommendation (F/XF/XF) with misgivings. Yet once the bed arrived, I found that contrary to what I thought I wanted (a soft bed), what gave my back the most relief was firm support. So I mailed back the firm layer on my side of the bed and got another XF layer, making my side XF/XF/XF (all 36 ILD). I missed the slight cush of the F/XF/XF and switched around layers to give my husband XF/XF/XF and me the F/XF/XF again, but after several weeks, I'm having back issues again (nothing like what I had before I got the latex bed though). So next time I change the sheets, I'll be moving the layers again and going back to XF/XF/XF. All Flobeds mattresses have a 2" soft convoluted topper on top of the three layers, so that provides some cushion. |
