So what do you guys do for guest beds?

I am trying to find something inexpensive that will still be comfortable. I think durability can take a hit here since it will only get used for a weekend every month or two..

I was thinking about getting a $400 sealy posturepedic cushion firm from Costco and then throwing a memory foam topper on it.

What do you guys think of that route?

Any other ideas?

I was trying to avoid giving guests a hellbed. Pretty much anyone I can tolerate for staying a single night, I would be glad to entertain for at least a week :)

We don't have a spare bedroom , so what we do is put them on our fold-out futon in the living room and tell them if it isn't comfortable enough we have plenty of memory foam they can put on top of it! (It's a very firm cotton-batting type futon.)

I actually think that when we do have a guest room some day I may just put a similar futon fold-out couch in it because they are cheap, can be folded into couch-mode when we don't have guests - to make the room less cluttered and provide for other uses - and actually they can be fairly comfortable, especially with a bit of decent quality foam on top.

I think your Sealy idea from CostCo is as good as any.

While I was browsing the Sam's Club website looking at their latex mattresses, I noticed they have this mattress:

which rolls up in a bag for storage.  Since we don't have a spare bedroom, this might be a good solution for when my mother-in-law comes to visit.  It has very positive reviews.

We got a latex mattress from foambymail as a way to find out if we might want a latex mattress for our master bed. We like it and all of our guests have been happy with it as well.
