Please help! So glad I found this forum. My problem. Sore shoulders and back. I'm a side sleeper. 6ft 200 lbs with a bodybuilder frame. Very narrow waist and wide shoulders so a flat bed with a single density just doesnt work. After trying tons of mattresses and toppers I have found that I need an ultra firm surface to keep my hips level. This works but then the surface is too hard for my shoulders and and I get soreness and numb arms. Get the surface soft enough for my shoulders and then the hips/back are sore. It would seem that a "zoning" topper is the solution. I will be putting the topper on an ultra firm spring mattress. The material in the middle or hip section of the topper will need to the super firm. What do you think? Any recommendations for a particular topper company? (REALLY concerned about being able to return it if needed)

I'm a believer in zoning and talalay latex for the foam. My opinion is to stay away from memory foam but there are many who believe otherwise. Here is a thread on toppers that may help you find a company. I would think you would need at least a 3 inch thick, 36 ILD (or higher) for the lower body, and possibly a 19 to 24 ILD for the upper body portion, but your results may vary. I think you can buy the higher ILD toppers inexpensively from FBM but you can also get them from SLAB, Sleepez, Mattresses.net, or other similar companies. I think you can't get better quality than SLAB but it will cost you. For the lower ILDs for your upper body, you would have better selection from SLAB, Sleepez, Mattresses.net. http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/latex-toppers/16314-0-1.html You can buy zippered covers from most of those companies too. Their prices have a range depending on quality but I've heard good things about all of them on this forum. I've purchased a couple of inexpensive zipper covers from FBM and they work. It depends on how much you want to pay and feel the latex or other foam underneath. This message was modified Mar 29, 2012 by Sall
