Greeting mattress experts and lurkers, I am a once-a-decade mattress buyer in need of assistance. Can anyone provide input for the Serta Icomfort foam mattress line? Specifically, I'm interested in the Revolution model king size. My initial search led me towards the Tempurpdic Rhapsody. However, many reviews suggest Tempurpedic's sleep "hotter" than spring or other foam mattresses. My wife is furnace so I dare not bring a mattress home which amplifies that issue. So, my next focus was the Simmons ComforPedic. My wife laid on every model and said they were "too springy" compared to the Tempurpedic and the iComfort. So we are down to one option right now, the iComfort. What I'm asking for help with is advice and comparison. The iComfort line of Serta is very, very new and this is possibly why there is no data or opinions on the internet. My heart is not set on the Revolution for $2,000 and I am genuinely interested in hearing advice and comments even if that information leads away from iComfort completely. Thoughts? I believe mattresses are supposed to have a pretty even feel of firmness when you press all around different areas of it. Like petes67 bird found, I also noticed an Insight twin XL on display floor at Sears with mfr. tag of 3/31/11 defintely did Not feel even firmness all over the mattress. It felt alright to lay on although it seemed like my hips sunk down a slight bit more than my feet. But I really noticed when I pushed down into the mattress - the hips area had somewhat more give, especially more than the feet area. When I sat on the mattress with my legs 'Indian style' towards the end, my butt sank in more than I'm used to, sort of like being in a hole. I'm not here to bash Serta. I was honestly shopping at Sears and really wanted to try a memory foam mattress without paying $500 more for a Tempur Pedic Cloud. I would have been willing to try out the Insight for a couple weeks as Sears has a one time no hassle free exchange, but I already went through a refund process with a local mattress mfr. and did one cancellation with Sears, so I'm in no mood to try products with little track record right now. That said, I posted up on Priuschat.com about foam mattresses and several long time posters had very good things to say about their Tempur Pedic mattresses. Good luck! I say this because the retailer has gotten some pretty rotten reviews, when we were shopping for our new mattress we couldn't find ANYTHING about it and I didn't find this Forum until after we got the matress delivered. One of my pals, 5 years ago, bought a Sleep Number bed and has one problem after another with it AND they have not honored their guarantee without her making a fuss. Good luck with your new bed. |
| I appreciate everyone's advice...after much deliberation, I have decided to go with the floor model Tempurpedic Classic over the iComfort Insight. I'm expecting it in Tuesday and I'm pretty excited about it! Overall, the Tempurpedic felt more dense to me than the iComfort and gets very good reviews. It won me over. |

After ordering it, I stumbled onto this site and actually had some trepidation after reading all the posts. But we got the bed yesterday and the initial reviews after one night sleep and a 2hr post run nap are very positive. It has a much lower profile than our former bed which is actually what we wanted but we weren't quite prepared for being 6 inches lower. We got used to that quickly as well. I slept very well both times, and it wasn't any adjustment at all going from a plush to the firmer bed. Obviously we need to see how this lasts over time, but any of the initial concerns have gone away. I read some posts about the bed smelling, which isn't the case at all for us. Again, we're not heavy people but I will pay attention to see if indentations occur down the road but otherwise so far so good. I do get warm very easily, especially on days when I run long but I did that today and even took a nap with more clothing than I'd normally wear and still felt very cool. We'll see if that lasts because the next 4 months down here are very very hot so it will be a good test. I would often wake up sweating with my old bed and have to get up for water and towel off and it would be nice if that didn't happen here. I've enjoyed the bantering back and forth over the technical aspects but I've learned that with bedding it is all very individual and I place very little trust in claims made in TV or print ads. I have no expectation about a bed lasting 10-20 years although that would be nice. good luck. If things change to the negative I'll be sure to post back. Sears gives a 120 day exchange period so we do have that amount of time but hopefully we'll have no need to take them up on that. |
| IMO the biggest con against tempurpedic is price. I tried the tempur cloud LUXE and Supreme and they felt great, but at $3500-$4000 I don't think so. Too rich for my pockets. I beleive you will enjoy your bed. Keep us posted. |

I had an iComfort Insight twin XL on order from Sears from Mon. 5/30/11, but cancelled the order today. It was to be delivered 2 days from now. At Sears, they had an Insight and Genius both twin XL and a Revolution Queen on display. Sitting and pushing on the Insight repeatedly, I noticed a little variance in the 'give' of the mattress - at the feet area, it was firmer, in the hips area, there was a little more sink when pushing into the mattress. Also, when I sat up on the mattress in the middle 'Indian style' on bed, it sunk down a bit, sort of like being in a hole. When I pressed all around the Revolution mattress, the feel was much more even from head to toe. .. Insight felt alright to lay on, but after reading Pete's (?) and Astinia's (sp?) posts, I decided I'm not in the mood to experiment. I found out Sears used to carry a memory foam mattress by Sealy (Embody?) last year, but now they have the iComfort. It just seems like a revolving door to keep a few memory foam mattress on the floor from different companies, like 5 foam mattress and 25 innerspring ones. I did a google search on subject 'are memory foam mattresses toxic' and a number of pages come up talking about how memory foam is petroleum based and has many chemicals in it. Reading about VOC's, off-gassing and all is a turn off. I know S brand innersrpings will do that too, but I doubt as much as a memory foam one. I bought a mattress with 3" memory foam topper 3 weeks ago, and the memory foam smelled awful for days. That Insight mattress was mfrd 3/31/11 and had some variance in feel. I've been looking at and ordered an S&F entry level plush tight top where the floor model mfrg. tag was June 2009 and the feel is very even in different areas of the mattress. I look forward to getting my new one in 8 days and getting off the couch (never let small outfit take your old mattress if you don't see yourself sticking with them on an exchange : | )

Hi all! My husband and I just purchased a king size iComfort Revolution as it seemed firm enough to provide the support we needed, but also soft enough to conform to your body. The bed was delivered yesterday and I could not be happier!!! Granted, it's only been one night, but I somehow slept 10 straight hours last night (as did my husband)! I don't know that that's ever happened. It's like our internal alarm clocks were completely shut off with this bed. I know others have also been concerned about the smell, but we did not have any problems with this either. I will try to write another update after several weeks, but so far, so good! By the way, I am 5'7" 140 lbs and my husband is 6'1" 280 lbs...very different body types! |

Like phreaky_d, I decided to change my order and went with the Tempurpedic Classic over iComfort Insight. The Tempur Classic felt great and reviews were overwhelmingly very positive. (When just considering the iComfort line it actually came down to the Genius over the Insight for me, given that I was leaning towards a firmer feel.) But after much research, reading reviews, and showroom bed testing, I felt that paying a few hundred $ more for a time-tested product is well worth it considering how much of our life is spent sleeping. The way I see it, if I’m going to pay over $1000 in the first place, I might as well pay a little more and get the proven Tempur bed. After reading all the varying reviews on the iComfort – some of you saying it broke down and turned to "mush" while others alleging it’s uncomfortably too firm – I decided not to play the role of guinea pig. If the mattress had been out a couple of years and the majority of reviews were positive it might be a different story. There’s only so much credence I can place on positive testimonials that were conducted in the 30-90 day period. Who knows, a few years from now the iComfort could turn out to be the preferred memory foam bed, but all I can consider is the information at hand right now, and I’m just not willing to take that risk on a product that’s been on the market for only a few months. But like I said, those of you who love your iComforts so far and find they’re top quality beds five years from now, more power to you for getting the better deal and taking that chance.
