Hi folks... I posted a question on this forum a few weeks ago & wanted to say "Thank You" to all of you who gave me really well thought-out, detailed, & helpful answers. I've been searching off & on for a new mattress for more than a year. I'm sleeping on an 11 yr old Sealy Posturepedic innerspring mattress (NOT a pillowtop) that is soooooooooo dipped that it looks like a soup bowl. I'm literally sleeping in a giant hole. It's killing me. So, that's it. I have to get a mattress, any mattress, because anything would be better than this. So, I would like to know >> If price were NO object & someone offered to buy you ANY mattress you wanted, would you get a Tempurpedic, or not?? Because it seems like what holds a lot of people back from getting a Tempurpedic is the OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH PRICE. But, it IS possible for something to be super expensive & STILL SUCK, so I'm wondering if you guys still wouldn't get a Tempurpedic simply because you just do not think they are comfortable to sleep on & that they have too many problems (sleep hot, too hard in winter, too soft in summer, stink, not good for marital relations...). I don't know, I'm thinking of just giving up & buying an Original Mattress Factory Orthopedic Ultra Plush innerspring (NOT pillowtop). They are only $779 for a Queen set & they are the most popular of the OMF beds. Also, Consumer Reports Readers Scores from May 2010 rates OMF 2nd only to Tempurpedic for customer satisfaction. It just seems, from reading this forum, that every single person on here that bought a Tempurpedic had to test drive it for weeks & months, & then STILL ended up exchanging it for a different Tempur model & STILL was not sure they were comfortable!! Some of you, are test driving TWO Tempurs at one time using split Kings w/ your spouses & are having problems w/ BOTH models!! It sounds like Tempurpedic is a ridiculous hassle!!! Wouldn't it just be easier to get the OMF Orthopedic Ultra Plush innerspring?? How bad could it possibly be compared to the endless Tempurpedic hassle that you all seem to be enduring?!! |

Little more feedback on Tempurpedic Cloud - Without a doubt, I can spend much more time laying on my right shoulder with this mattress (old injury / arthro surgery on rt. shoulder years ago). Last night I was laying and sleeping directly on right shoulder for quite some time. The only foam I have found so far that will accomodate that is memory foam. I could lay on right side with iComfort Revolution, but sank in too much, so didn't work over time. I don't sink in too much on Cloud. The strange thing is I haven't been feeling so awfully refreshed in the morning, but that could be due to several others factors like stress. I'm a little concerned about the slight odor that is still coming off the mattress and pillow. Wondering if I don't want to breathe as freely due to that. It would be so much better if the things did not smell. Easily the biggest downside so far. Far as sleeping hot - was 80 F in the room at 10 pm last night. Had to turn covers down at first, but was not hot rest of night. |

I can report that this Tempurpedic (a Cloud) sleeps a little bit warmer, sometimes than other beds like latex or typical innersping beds. But, it hasn't been a problem. It's been 80 F in the room (no A/C) a number of times recently, and even that hasn't been a problem. The only thing I notice is sometimes the mattress is a little bit warmer at contact points and I seem to only notice it when turning over. That's it. I don't wake up from being too hot. If someone lived in a situation where the room is routinely over 80 F at bedtime, would probably want to skip any memory foam bed. This message was modified Sep 27, 2011 by slpngoc

I exchanged back the Tempurpedic advanced ergo base today for the fixed foundation. I don't watch TV or read in bed, so the adjustable base was not necessary. Thought I might become more of a back sleeper with it, but didn't happen. Having it adjusted up just made it so couldn't turn to the side. Distracting to adjust during the night, so, exchanged it. A Tempurpedic twin XL fixed foundation 9" is heavy! I peered up throught the bottom fabric, and the top/center surface is fully reinforced as they say. I'd be shocked if it sags a quarter inch. I don't see how it could. Appears to be very solid construction, unlike some comments I've heard around here that 'it's the cheapest foundation around'. I don't see that in what I got. It looks very sturdy and heavy duty. It might weight twice as much as the typical S brand 'box spring' sold nowadays. This message was modified Oct 11, 2011 by slpngoc

Night two was fine on the fixed Tempurpedic foundation. Obviously the mfr. (it's made for Tempurpedic) uses adhesive in the foundation cause it has a slight odor too. The top is MDF board (medium density fiber ?) and seems very sturdy. The top / center head to toe is fully supported with wood spine, so I don't think it will sag one bit in the middle. So, this twin XL set is $1450 + tax. A split king would be $2900. Assuming it will maintain its feel for years, I think it is a good value. As most know, one downside is the odor off Tempurpedic sets. Being too hot is a complete non-issue. I think the strongest point is the initial quality of the set.
