This unusual breed of memory foam has rarely been mentioned here and online reviews are hard to come by, so if you have any experience at all with Venus foam, please tell us what you think of it. :-)

I just received my order from overstock.com.

I ordered two king sized (77"x76)" 1-inch venus foam toppers. Each box is clearly labeled "venus memory foam 1-inch mattress topper," though there is no mention of Foamex. The foam is a light peach-pink-cream color. I saw some youtube videos of Venus foam and it looked much darker, like a rust color. And the photos at Overstock.com showed blue foam.

I thought I was in good shape for this to add up to 8lbs/cuft based on the weight. One box weighed 30.6lbs, the other weighed 32.6lbs. But I opened the heavier one and found it to be 1.75" thick, not 1". By my calculations that adds up to 5lbs/cuft. So unless it is going to fall back down to 1" thick after a few days of off-gassing, it appears I got two 1.75-inch thick 5lb toppers.

So unless 8lb Venus foam really weighs 5lbs/cuft, or 1.75" foam is really 1" foam, I suspect bait and switch. Am I calculating wrong?

They probably shipped you Sensus instead of Venus.

Dear Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzplease...I recall a month ago you relayed you soon to be delivered purchase of an OMF ortho-extra firm bed, and were eagerly awaiting its arrival around the teens of july. Have you received it yet and what do you think? I would genuinely like some feedback from another user of the same mattress I purchased in late may. I see you are searching for toppers, so I gather that you too may need some added softness to you bed. Mine is still too, too hard and uncomfortable by itself. And I purchased 2 inch fiberbed to solve the problem. I believe you also commented on that too. How is your bed working out for you? And do you know of anyone who purchased those special "latex" pillows that they sell? I am tempted to try one.

Mbubba, I think Mequon Jim is right about the Sensus/Venus swap. Sensus is pink and 5 lbs./cubic ft. The Overstock Venus should be indigo blue. Whichever I decide to go with, I don't think I'm going to go through Overstock. I've read too many sketchy descriptions of their Venus toppers, and for some strange reason the manufacturer is advertised as "Praxis". Foamex makes the authentic Sensus/Venus foam.

Marybeth wrote:
I'm actually still sleeping on the ortho ultra plush because I can't decide on the type of topper I want to use with the extra firm mattress. I'm awaiting samples of Sensus and Venus memory foam, though I may break down and switch out the mattress before buying a topper...the ultra plush is doing a number on my back. :-P

I just commented on the pillows in your new thread. :-)
