Anyone care to comment on Foam By Mail Memory toppers?

They say the 4.5lb isn't as much temp sensitive as the 5.5lb, which is "closer" to T-Pedics patented foam (I know no one has that exact one). They deny they're made in China (if that counts). But it would be nice to hear from users.

BTW, I see all sorts of posts using mem foam under latex, that doesn't make sense - does it? I thought the mem had to conform to the body and used body heat, so it had to be the top.

I have a zillion combos of FBM latex and have found that they are all firmer than their ILDs would seem. Once I knew that I could plan better, but I would have saved $$ ordering softer at first. So I understand this is all very subjective anyway from my latex trials, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Sorry - we didn't buy from FBM.
My bride bought the Cloud9 3 inch thick 4.3 visco elastic memory foam topper via Amazon.com - on sale for about $150.00.
We use it on top of our firm and waveless waterbed mattress. I can't imagine why someone would put latex over memory foam. Agree that the body molding and softer feel of memory foam is the perfect match for comfort as top layer of our base - even it that base isn't latex. Not a heat generator (good thing since our bed is heated) - simply perfect.
We got perfect 'sweet dreams' - hope you find that too!

That is funny, at the last minute I decided not to get the FBM memory foam and also got a cloud9 brand 5.3 topper. It's 3" and I love it, my friend has a 3lb density or maybe 4lb density from costco that is so plush you sink right through. The 5.3 is much more firm compared to the costco foam.
There is no competition for FBM latex price like there is with the memory foam price. Search e-bay or amazon for latex and you can't find any cheaper brands for latex than FBM's. Search those sites for memory foam and there are so many comparable priced results.
I don't mean to hijack but wanted to know if foam by mail latex queen size, has a seam in it?

No seams in any of my 6 different thicknesses and ILDs in king size from FBM.

I'll look at other sources for mem foam. Maybe I should have just asked who sells the best mem foam for the money.

BTW - Imjay gets lot of s**t about liking waterbeds...I had several over 30 years and miss them badly.

Even my wife, who vetoed another (leading to this whole DIY foam mattress project), now misses it and wonders if we should have just fixed ours and topped it off with foam.

If you haven't tried a good one, you really don't have much room to comment. They are quite different from the old "bags of water".

I thought all talalay latex >40 inches had glue seams. Is the FMB latex dunlop? Interesting...

Sorry to be somewhat off topic, but I have bought 3 PU toppers from FBM (Attempting to make old mattresses comfortable enough to last a couple more years) and I find them a very good company to do business with. All 3 of the toppers (a twin, a king, and a full) were 2 inches both ways too big than standard bed measurements. I didn't mind, (better than skimpy-too small!) because I just took my electric knife to 'em!! But I am now considering building a latex foam mattress for myself and wonder if the latex too will be larger than standard??? Don't want to be messing about with latex and the electric knife--for warranty reasons/cost of latex. Hmmmmmm.

FBM says latex is talalay.

I just don't trust the durability of memory foam, no matter who the manufacturer/supplier. This sleep comfort search is driving me crazy and I don't want to be doing it again in just a couple years.

My FBM latex toppers were all slightly larger than sized, but it doesn't matter because when you lay them together you can stretch or squish them at least 2" (on the 1" thick) and enough on the 2" thick to make them line up with the 6" base (which was very close but slightly larger), its not an issue. Latex is much stretchier than any PU I have seen, and the difference is easily adjusted over the king width.
(actually when I say "easy", it did involve a lot of "flipping" of the foam, like when you flip a sheet out to make your bed - catching the air under it...but it works.)

I'm doing something this weekend with the bed and will look again for seams, but don't remember any.

That's good to know, thanks. As things stand right now, I plan on ordering the base foam of my mattress in high Q, high R, PU and then top it with 2 latex toppers, medium and soft, that I can switcheroo if needed. The only questions left in my mind are the thicknesses of these pieces.....

Latex International (LI) Talalay will have a glue seam because their molds are 40" --although I have heard their east coast plant has wider molds. Other manufacturers use different sized molds so you might not see a glue seam. Some people think a core with a glue seam is an inferior product, but LI makes very consistent high quality foam, and the glue seam does not effect the durability or comfort of the core.

I purchased 2 - 4.5lb memory foam toppers from Foam By Mail. After using for 1 month they flattened and would not expand. I decided to weigh the mattress and found out it was not 4.5lb foam. I purchased a 3" king pad which is 76"x80"x3" or 10.55 cubic ft. A 4.5lb pad would therefore weigh about 47.5lbs, but my pad weighed about 36lbs. I called and complained and they allowed me to return the pad and even paid for return shipping. Good customer service but it was a real pain to repack the pads. I purchased from Bergad\Isoform and have been pleased.
