Just ordered Sleep Science Latex from Costco- couple questions

Hi there, I have been reading and studying on this website for awhile. We have bought 2 new king mattresses in just over a years time and both have been warrantied through the manufactures (both innerspring, a Serta and an Aireloom). Both of these mattresses had severe body impressions within a couple months and became very uncomfortable. We have decided to move away from innerspring and try something new. I was initially interested in a memory foam mattress, but after having the Aireloom and reading a lot of reviews, I discovered that the memory foam might be way too hot for me. Here is what the Aireloom was made of:

• 8" Aireloom Pocketed Coil Springs

• Soy Based Foam Encased Edge

• 1" 19 Ild. Talalay Latex

• 1 1/2" Super Foam

• 1 1/2" Convoluted/Reflex Foam

So, I have decided on and ordered the Sleep Science 10" Latex mattress from Costco. I know that with Costco's awesome return policy, I will be ok. I also have seen a lot of positive feedback on this forum about this mattress which leads me to my questions.
I see that some people have put down plywood on top of their foundations. Is this necessary? Are there advantages/disadvantages of doing this? I will be using the Aireloom foundation that I am now stuck with.
My other question is about adding a mattress topper to this mattress. I see that some have done this as well. I guess I don't understand why I would need to add a topper to a brand new mattress. Is it because adding a memory foam topper would add more softness? I worry about heat issues by doing that. Or is there some toppers that don't have heat issues?
I ordered the mattress today and it says its 4-6 weeks out on delivery. I hope its quicker then that!!
The past year has been mattress hell! I just want something that I love. I hoep this mattress is just that.

I've had the SS Latex from Costco for a few months now. I don't know about the foundation - I have the SS foundation that came with the mattress. The soft side of the mattress was a little too firm for me. I tried the 3" memory foam from Costco but it was way too hot and too thick. I had some low back pain with it. I just returned it and ordered the Flobeds 2" convoluted latex topper and so far, after 2 days, I am happy with it. Not too thick, and not hot. I also have the Costco Cuddlebed mattress pad over all of it, again to help soften everything up. After getting the Flobeds topper, I probably don't need the Cuddlebed mattress pad, but I think I'll keep it for now.

I slept on this latex mattress for 1 night at my friend's guest room. I was the first to sleep on it.
The soft side is very very soft. I weigh 200 lbs. I went straight down in it. It is just very soft. I don't know why anyone would say otherwise.
The foundation is all metal and it is junk. Folks who tell you that is not so are not telling truthfully. I have even seen 1 reviewer on costco site singing praises of the junk metal foundation. I am assuming s/he is getting paid for misleading buyers or it could be someone from Sleep Science itself posting bogus review.

When I slept on the latex mattress in my friend's guest room, I woke up at night to find myself going down in the center of the bed! Can you imagine my surprise! I had to wake up my friend in middle of the night! We found the foundation very unprofessionally made. The latex mattress collapsed in the center as the foundation had no support in the middle! We looked at the whole thing in disbelief! The latex mattress was sagging in other places too! I was the first and the last to sleep on that bed!

So it sounds like the foundation that is being sold with the mattress is junk. Glad I am not getting that then. Hopefully I can make ours work.
Q119- Thanks for the topper information. I hope the Flobed works for you. The cuddle bed pad sounds nice, but unfortunatly with a toddler and dog in the house, we like to keep a waterproof pad on the bed. I think that might have something do to with the beds being hot. I would love a wool pad!
roy1- You mentioned the soft side is very soft.. I was actually worried that it wouldn't be soft enough for us, so I guess we'll see when we get it.

Forgot to tell you that I am 5'6" and 135, DH is 6'4" and 230lbs. We have the soft side up and DH said it is the most comfortable bed he's slept on. He loves it. He loved it before I added the soft topper, but now we are both happy. He doesn't even come close to bottoming out like the previous poster's experience.
I also have the foundation that came with it and so far, so good, but I know other people haven't been happy with it.
My mattress did take almost 4 weeks to get to me, hopefully yours will arrive quicker!

As Q119 says, there are as many opinions about this bed, and the foundation, as there are people who own it. But, truly, I wonder why Costco would continue to sell this foundation for so long if it were so awful, but maybe there are some lemons or something left out when the shipping company puts them together.
The best part about the Costco mattress, if it doesn't work out for you, is their return policy. And you'll also get some idea of whether or not latex works for you.

Has anyone used the costco latex mattress with medium surface on top?
I want to know how that worked out.
Since it says it has 19 ILD of soft then 24 ild then 32 ild and then 24 Ild on the other side.
So you can use either 19 ILd as top or 24 Ild as the top.\
If you use the 24 ILd as top laeyr then it will put the 19ILD of soft layer as the bottom layer. I wonder if having 19 ILD of soft latex as bottom layer works at all.

I FINALLY received my Costco latex mattress and foundation exactly one week ago today and it took the FULL SIX WEEKS! Of course, I can't blame them since it was clearly stated that it could potentially take that long. During that 6 weeks without a bed, I bought a 2" memory foam mattress topper and simply placed it on the carpet and slept on it!
So when I finally got that mattress and foundation, I slept like a baby. No stiff butt, no stiff shoulder blades, just PERFECT! I'm 5'3" and 135lbs. It has truly been the most perfect bed so far. I thought I would need the memory foam mattress topper since I read various reviews about the latex being way too firm but it is perfect for me.
I was also hoping the foundation would not be squeaky as other reviewers experienced but to my dismay, it squeaked every time I plopped down. After having a cheap bed metal bed frame with a plush Sealy (gave me aches and pains btw) that squeaked with every little move in bed, I went straight for the WD-40.
I'm pretty sure that spraying WD-40 under the foundation with the mattress still on top is probably not a recommended practice, but I knew I would go crazy if I had to hear that thing squeak every time I got in my bed. The first night it still squeaked but within a few days, there are absolutely ZERO squeaks coming from the foundation. VICTORY! But okay, I know you don't need a foundation so I'll move it along.
My thought was that I would need the 2" memory foam topper on the latex mattress for added softness but no way. I don't need it. I haven't even tried to top it yet because the firmness of the mattress has been so perfect for me. Also, I don't have AC in my bedroom with only a ceiling fan for reprieve in the Midwest summer humidity/heat and having a cool mattress has made a WORLD of a difference in being able to sleep more comfortably. That is worth more than gold to me since I used to find it extremely difficult to fall asleep at night. My original purchase of the plush Sealy was a big mistake, where I couldn't fall asleep on it at all. When I had the Sealy, I ended up sleeping on my couch instead!
So basically, I don't think you will need the MF topper, especially if you prefer your mattress on the firmer side. I thought the latex mattress would be like cement based on the reviews I've read here and at Costco's website, but clearly, it is all personal preference and how your body perceives/responds to the mattress. I guess sleeping on the ground for 2 months also helped.

Ar eyou sleeping on the firm side of the mattress? How does it feel? with the soft side on the bottom? doesthe mattress feels stable and good?
So you have no a/c in your home?

(Look underneath the foundation. I looked at it when I slept on it for half a night. The foundation has big big areas with no support. In fact my friend got a technical drawing of the foundation. I looked at it and it has a huge gap in the center with no support. There are other areas too with gaps without any support. This foundation is a disaster. No one should be able to sell this kind of junk.)
