I gave it a try but it just didn't work for me. The Flobed was too soft, even when I tried 3 super firm cores. It started out good but then the back aches came. It was a good test and the Flobed folks were very nice. It's just not the right bed for me. I contacted Flobed last week. They said I can return with no problems. I'm just awaiting their e-mail with instructions. For now, it is back to the memory foam bed. I sleep close to the sides because that is where it is the most firm. It seems like I've sort of worn out the rest of the bed over the past 2 1/2 years or so as it sinks too much and offers no back support. Thanks to everyone for all their wonderful support and comments. It seems like Flobeds is a good company and a good opiton for some - just not for me. I am very thankful I can return the bed and get most of my money back.

I know it's hard for a lot of people to consider the hardside waterbed mattress in same class as other mattresses and I know I am a broken record on the subject but it's near our bed time right now and I just read your post and it made me think of how very happy we are with our waveless and extra firm wterbed mattress in combination with a Cloud9 semi-firm 4.3 three inch topper.
It's always perfectly firm without ever being hard and the firmness is easily adjustable and we have found sleep bliss on one for over 20 years.
Anywho, it sounds like you are back in the hunt for sleep comfort with firmness so please think about giving a waterbed a try. Our new one with extra firmness was only $300 and the topper was under $200 so if you can afford a comfort gamble think about trying something different.

Leo3 - The bed may work better without the convoluted topper. When it arrived, they actually made an error and did not send the topper so I slept a few nights without it. I can say that it was firmer but it was winter here and the bed was freezing. The topper makes a huge difference on warmth. So, even though it is more firm without the topper, I don't think I could tolerate it in winter. I actually ended up purchasing a Stearns and Foster conventional mattress and box spring set from Sears. It was 50% off for a firm and what really sold me was that I can return it and get my money refunded if I am not happy. I think this bed will work. If it doesn't I'll consider Imjay's water bed suggestion.
BobJ, Just like shoes have arches and widths that affect everyone's feet differently so a pair of shoes that is comfortable for one person may not be comfortable for another person, I feel beds are just like this and that is why I would never buy a bed or any large puchase on the Internet or through mail order that does not have a good return policy with no restocking fee. That is why I went with FloBeds but I was lucky that I was able to make it work for me and be comfortable but if it wouldn't have worked out, I would have had the option to return it if I wanted to. I had allergy problems to the materials in conventional mattresses so I went the Latex route and I am glad I did but there is not perfect solution for everyone since we are all different. Good luck with your new bed and please let others know which model and if you recommend it after a few weeks.
I'm still waiting for the Stearns & Foster from Sears. They were supposed to deliver last Friday but someone made an error. It is now coming this week on Friday. I had a message on my phone tonight confirming delivery. They actually have a 30 day return policy where you can get your money back. I was planning to have them take the memory foam mattress away but will keep it in the garage just in case. I found a couple of places where I can donate it and they come and pick it up - I think this will be good for all in the end.
The FloBed people have been nice enough but you have to work to get your money back from them. I've sent back 2 sets of cores. They told me up to 3 weeks to see a credit on the credit card. After returning the first set of cores, I had to remind them of my credit after 3 weeks had expired. I returned a 2nd set and it has been 4 weeks and no refund yet. I sent them an e-mail last week with no reply. So, if you buy a FloBed and keep it, no problems, if you are returning things, there could be a concern about when (if?) they refund your money. To return the bed, you need to complete a form online and wait for authorization from FloBed. The form states that if you don't hear from them within 5 days, contact them again. Guess what? I had to contact them again - very slow. And it is VERY expensive to ship the bed back. Let's see how the return works out. They say it takes up to 30 days to process the credit. Why do I have a feeling I'll be calling them about that too? I'll keep you posted on the new mattress and how the FloBed return works out. Has anyone else on here returned a bed to FloBed?

Flobeds seems to be a reputable firm so I'm sure you will receive your refund--eventually. But frankly I don't see why they should drag it out 30 days. That seems a bit excessive to look over the cores and verify that they were returned in good condition.

When another week had passed and still no credit I called again. This time Shawn put the credit through while I was on the phone. That's one thing about mom and pop stores. They love to put your credit card through, but they're not so eager to credit you back.

Document the steps you have taken. If you don't receive your credit in the promised 30 days, call and ask them to put it through while you wait. If they give you the run-around let them know you will be contacting your credit card company for a charge back if they don't resolve the matter promptly. You probably won't need to take any action, but if things fall through the cracks you do have options.

Bob-Not to worry. I returned a FloBed a few years ago and was annoyed by the 30 day credit policy too. It took the full 30 days, but I did receive the credit without having to call.
Thanks Cloud9 and princesspea. I'm sure you are both right. I had an e-mail from FloBed this evening saying they processed the $200 credit for the returned cores. I suspect I will end up waiting the full 30 days for the credit on the bed. I WILL call them if they are late. I did call them 2 times regarding the first set of cores I returned. On the 2nd set, I thought I'd try the e-mail route first.
My latex cores (from FloBeds) never move around once the zippered cover is over the topper and my bed feels heavenly on my right side. That is my favorite side of the bed since I have the perfect combination of latex cores on that side that makes sleeping so comfortable for me. I also love my latex pillow that is not too soft or too firm and is in a standard size that I bought from Overstock.com. I also love the 10" legs that allow me to store clothes under my pine slat fox. that I covered with an ivory bed ruffle.
Does the top softer layer also go within the mattress or does that have a separate cover and sits on top of the mattress like a pillow top.

It is called a convoluted top. It does go inside the mattress and stays in place very well. Latex on top of latex just does not move around very easily. In fact, it takes some extra effort to lay the latex pieces properly because you can't simply slide them around.
