Simmons Beautyrest World Class Extra Firm

So, today I went to some local stores to check out really firm mattresses that I could put a latex topper on.
I really liked the Simmons Beautyrest World Class (Parksdale) extra firm. Anyone have experience with this mattress? They actually had a 2" Natura natural talalay latex topper at the store, so I was able to try it on top, which felt great. Nice and firm, but the latex was good on top.
I'm having a hard time finding a lot of reviews on this mattress in general. It felt very nice & firm in store and they of course assure you of no sagging. But- hard to know. Do these materials seem like they'd be durable? Or no? Or anyone have this one?
Apparently it contains the following:
1" high density purfoam- luxury foam
1" energy foam (3.5lb NxG memory foam band in center 1/3 support area)
1000 coils / 13/25 gauge (8")
1/2" Energy Foam

That bed is a brick. Yes it will hold up. The only thing firmer is the floor.

Ha ha! That's pretty much what I am looking for. I plan to put a topper on it anyway, so I am just looking for something really firm that will NOT SAG in the next few years b/c of cheap junky foam.

Anyone else with opinions on this bed? Or anyone who has it?

I just bought this mattress as well from USMattress.com.
Better beleive it IS hard. Something worth noting. I find it in some ways actually harder than comparable models by the other big S brands due to the 13 gauge coils (you'll find 14 in most other ) as well as the high coil count (at least its high for this price point) The cumulative effect is that while all beds with a comfort rating of say 2 will feel initially roughly the same - the coil support on this mattress has less give than the other ones so at 110 lbs i find myself feeling at odds with the the coils beneath me wishing they would give just a tiny bit more.
Not to digress - given the above - i'd say this thing seems to stand a good chance of holding up for years as it feels like a very solid tank of a mattress not laden with cheap foam. I'm quite pleased with this considering the $750 price and the fact that after a 2 inch deep crater developed in my last bed within six months, I live in dread of craters and the resulting backaches.
I did put a 1.5" serenia latex topper on it. it was a bargain on amazon at $74 and i'm sure not 100% pure but it seems to do a nice job. I am considering an additional 1" medium firm latex layer under that but haven't done anything about it yet.

I've actually read some of the reviews on the usmattresses site and they do seem pretty good. But, on some other sites, I've read some pretty bad things about Beautyrest and even the world class models.
May I ask how long you've had yours? I was planning to do the same thing-- ~2" latex topper to get it soft, yet firm.

If you can find a small local mattress manufacturer, I would recommend. We have one who makes several types of mattresses only, then many different toppers. The difference is he sews on large velcro patches at the corners to anchor any topper which has velcro on it as well.

I've only had it about a month. So far so good. I went on epinions.com before buying and found that in general, the only beds that get good reviews are the ones that cost several thousand dollars. Most softer S brand beds seem to get bad reviews. Also, this might be a case of people feeling more compelled to post a bad review than a good one. I'm thinkinig that if a person gets a bed they're happy with they're more likely to just move on and not think twice about posting something positive.

My husband and I bought the Simmons Beautyrest World Class extra firm (Elderberry) tight top in May. I'm not sure, but the name Elderberry may be the Macy's name. We were looking for a very firm mattress with no inferior foam. It is an extremely firm mattress. We are campers, and as my husband says, sleeping on the ground is softer than this mattress. We initially put 1.5 inches of memory foam topper on top of it, but that wasn't enough. We then added another 1.5 inches of a Talalay latex foam topper, which began to help. We are now looking for our next layer of topper. At the rate we are going, we are essentially building a mattress on top of it, since it is as firm as a box spring.
It does not yield at all to pressure. The saleswoman told us that we would definitely need a topper and she was correct. My husband woke up with numb arms, and as I am a side sleeper, it does not yield enough for my hips or shoulders to keep my spine in alignment.
I think that as a base, it is ideal, because it truly does seem that it will stand up for a long time. Just be prepared to layer toppers on it to get a comfort layer.

Update: I put another 2" of latex on this thing for a total of 3.5" and must say the springs are still a bit too uncompromising for me. Arms always alseep in the morning etc. Going to swap it out for a foam/latex hybrid at a loss.

Hi, I cannot say from experience in sleeping on one but from looking at them very closely I can say that the Simmons are some of the best pocket coil springs around, aside from much more expensive "specialty" or "custom made" mattresses.
I have had a complete turn around on this, I used to hate Simmons. Now I am anxious to buy one and try it. Why the turn around? Simply because I have laid on them, looked at the way the springs are made and compared them to others like S&F and Sealy who also now use pocket coils.
As for a particular Simmons being too firm, here's what I can tell you: they all use the same springs of which there are 2 basic types: There is the very firm springs which are made from 13.5 and there are the regular 15.5 gauge wires; then there are the double-row ones which as I recall have a row of each or maybe the very firm ones have 2 rows of 13.5 gauge springs. The springs themselves are NOT THAT firm.
What makes the mattress too firm is that they add a layer or two of very firm pu (polyurethane) foam. (and this goes for virtually ALL mattress companies).
So... in a worst case scenario where you cannot return the mattress, and it's too firm still, you can do mattress surgery (see the thread at the top of the forum) and remove the offending layer and that itself might solve the problem. If it does not, you can then add a layer or two of quality latex in the firmness you desire, put the top back on the mattress, cover it with your fitted sheet and no one will know your mattress has been doctored.

Molly, I have a Simmons Beautyrest Bagwell, extra firm mattress for over seven years now and at 230 pounds, it's flat as the day I bought it. However, I have been adding mattress toppers continuously. First I tried a 2" memory foam from Macy's which proved to be to hard. Then I added a quilted wool duvet from McRoskeys with not much success. Two week ago, I purchased a Queen Rejuvenite mattress topper from Arizona Premium On-line with a 28 ILD rating manufactured at Latex International and while this feels nice to sleep on, the 28 ILD on the extra firm simmonds is still too hard. Hope this helps.

The McRoskey mattress topper is a Brun De Vian-Tiran topper which is a very comfortable topper that I just added over my Rejuvenite Topper.

The McRoskey mattress topper is a Brun De Vian-Tiran topper which is a very comfortable topper that I just added over my Rejuvenite Topper.


I just added a 19 ILD Rejuvenite Latex Mattress Topper over the 28 ILD Topper and then the Brun De Vian-Tiran Wool and this combination is in my humble opinion "PERFECT".
