We're transitioning our toddler into a twin bed, using my old hardwood frame from the '90s. The inside width measures 37.5", but most modern twin mattresses are listed as 38-39". Have mattress sizes changed, or will it still fit?

nah, standard twin mattress sizes haven't significantly changed since the 90s. A standard twin mattress is typically 38 inches wide and 75 inches long. Some manufacturers might list them as 39 inches, but this is usually a slight variation or rounding.
Your hardwood frame measuring 37.5 inches inside width is definitely on the tighter side for a standard 38-inch mattress

Why do you think the mattress sizes might have changed, did you measure the frame's inside width carefully, or could the difference be from mattress padding and covers?

Thanks for the clarity, it looks like the frame's a bit tight for a standard twin mattress. I might need to consider a slightly smaller mattress or adjust the frame if possible

I measured the frame carefully, it's definitely 37.5 inches inside. So maybe the mattress padding or covers add that extra bit, I'll look for a mattress with minimal extra width.
