"ECO latex twin mattress is made from 2-inches of natural latex on 6-inches of high density foam"
If you have actually read several hundred forum postings, seems like you would already be familiar with opinions on bases for latex....

On-line merchants like SleepEz and Flobeds make their own product. They buy their components directly from the latex manufacturer. You receive it in separate pieces and assemble it yourself so you know exactly what's inside--pure latex. No PU. Their prices are lower because they don't have to inflate it to cover all the overhead.
As to which is superior, natural vrs synthetic. Depends on what's important to you. If you want a product that is made out of tree sap rather than petroleum then "natural" is for you. However, sap is like wine. Some...

Some people just cover all their layers with a standard mattress pad. While I was between mattresses I slept on a do-it-yourself mattress composed of a 3" layer of firm PU, an eggcrate topper and 2" of memory foam. I just put...

Thanks for the great post!
I tend to think you are right regarding the thinner mattress cover ... similar to a pillow cover. Yes, I agree with you regarding the vinyl thing as well. My wife would like to get some sort of waterproof thing as we will be having our 1st baby in June 09. I would rather have something else.
As for a mattress protector/pad, I think this could be an interesting alternative over the cheaper mattress zippered cover. I think the quilted zippered cases do decrease the amount of softness from the mattress but it probably wouldn't be much different from this mattress pad.
I agree the zippered cases are priced to be a barrier from others trying to get around the "mattress racket". Really, $400 or in Canada ... $600 for a cover is just nonsense.
I have seen mattress toppers that stretch to the...

I’ll admit it. I’m spoiled.
After a year on my new bed-—combination of a tallalay Vera Wang “Serene Peace,”, a Natura tallalay topper, and a micro denier topper-—sleeping on anything else is a let down; the only other thing I find comfortable is the Heavenly Bed (good thing, since I’m in Westins on work trips 12+ times a year). Like I said, spolied.
The challenge now is the bed in the guest room at my parents’ house, where I’ve been trying to spend more time these days. Even after 25 years, the mattress in there feels like a slab of concrete; if I sleep at all, it’s in agony, not to mention how my back feels in the morning.
Thankfully, I’ve convinced them it’s time to replace the beast. Thank God.
Told them I’d do the dirty work, but I live in Minneapolis...they live in Nebraska...so this is all happening...

After doing much Latex mattress research (most of it here), I found that a local B&M discount furniture store offers very competitive prices.
You can find their latex mattress offerings here on their online site: http://shop.mybobs.com/Naturally_Bob.aspx (Click on the photos for prices). I believe all these prices include the pictured mattress covers.
I am interested in a queen-size, and the retailer offers two versions: Lite ($499) and Naturally ($999, with dual, firm and plush options). I plan on asking them the obvious questions (# of layers, thickness, ILD, manufacturing process, mattress cover composition)... but I would appreciate any other "gotchas", or reasons to doubt their claims, that the community can offer.
Thanks in advance!...

I'm in the market for a new latex mattress and I have found this site to be a treasure trove of invaluable information.
In my research, I've come across some retailers' claims that a true latex king mattress of 6-8" thickness should sell for at least $2K-$3K... if it's less than this, then that's a sure-fire indication that the supplier is using cheap polyurethane fillers, or other such chicanery. Which will cause the mattress to sag and/or wear out much sooner than a true latex mattress, as well as comfort & toxicity insinuations.
Any truth to this? I'm thinking specifically of online retailers such as FBM, Flobeds, Sleep EZ, etc. Can anyone confirm that they use only 100% "real" latex in their mattresses? Also, is there anything to the argument about the superiority of natural vs synthetic latex?
Thanks in advance....
