Re: how to compare Latex mattresses? - cloud9

You'll only know if you contact Verlo and see if they will provide information on the construction and ILDs of their mattresses. Check their website. Whether you can duplicate this at FBM is questionable. They have a limited range of ILDs available. Basically a 32 that they consider firm but I would call more of a medium, and a 20 that is soft. And that's it....

Your mention of the 'squishy' pillowtop over coils reminded me of a Verlo mattress i tried out that i loved..and i'm trying to replicate it!
In response to some of your questions:
--I just received my cuddlebed, and am going to put it over the latex layer (ILD 20) that i'm waiting for, and over the 1" of memory foam (sensus) that is airing out right now. This all goes on top of my HD36 3" and LUX 3". The Cuddlebed feels very nice, and probably gives a bit of cush, but isn't supposed to be a *significant* layer.
--I hear that FBM's memory foam is very inconsistent in terms of density; Sensus is 5 lb, and supposedly very consistent, so that's probably the best bet. It feels very soft, softer than i expected, but is supposed to be good quality (got mine at Overstock--great deal).
I'll report back when I've got this...

memory foam in mid-layer?? - electracat

I spoke with a salesman at Verlo mattress today, as i'd slept on a friend's Verlo bed and wanted to find out what's in it. He spoke of the 1" layers of foam in the pillow-top, one of which was memory foam. But the MF was in a middle layer; he said this is so that it doesn't make the person sleeping on it hot...Doesn't this negate its properties, though? I mean, doesn't MF need to be on the top layer, because, sensitive to heat, that's how it conforms to one's body and does its inherent job? Or can it have value being in a mid-layer?
Thanks for any input...;)

Will two foam twins have (considerably) less motion transfer than one king-size foam mattress? - electracat

Well, i can't seem to get some of my questions answered, and i'm probably posting too much as a result!
Anyway, here are some of my questions:
1) will two twin foam mattresses (HR foam) pushed together, in the same mattress cover, reduce--considerably--motion transfer as opposed to a king-size foam mattress? What is the ideal setup for two people who want to sleep together but can't tolerate motion?
2) What should i get as my base--HR36-hq or LUX-hq? 6 inches or more? We're mostly side sleepers, boyfriend likes more firmness than i do, but doesn't really care.
3) Should i get super-soft foam or egg-crate as a topper? 2 inches or less?
4) Why can't i have different toppers for our (hypothetically separate twin) mattresses, if i can get different bases?
5) is 2.8 density HR foam the same in two different stores, or can they be very different?
5) Lastly, a salesman at Verlo told...

And now for a different opinion. I have FBM's 6" firm and 3" soft with a Cuddle Bed mattress cover. I'm 5'1, weigh135-150, BF is over 6' weights 250, both side sleepers. We are in awe of this bed; best we've ever slept on. We tend to like soft beds, and this bed provides good support while being soft at the same time. It's firm enough to sit on the edge without sliding off. Maybe the platform bed it's on adds to the firmness, while the Cuddle Bed adds softness. Others have described a jello-like feel to latex. I noticed this when I unpacked the 3" topper, but the Cuddle Bed eliminated this characteristic. Now the bed has a soft, sinking in feeling (in a good way.) One thing we both noticed is how comfortable our legs are. I tend to have restless legs and he has arthritis in his knee and usually puts a pillow...

I've already done it. Thanks though, because it turned out to be good advise. (Did you mean "you" as me, or "you" in general?) Anyway, I was trying to draw Marshall in, who said it's a bad idea in the thread: Innerspring Mattress with Latex Top? Perhaps he didn't realize the horrible return/exchange policies (and actualities) we can run into over on this side of the pond. Or, maybe he does know something we don't. I'll be the first to admit I can overlook even the obvious.

Alex, you seem very professional, knowledgeable and patient and customers would probably be well served to buy a mattress from you.
However, I think you're overlooking the obvious dissatisfaction that many people here are expressing and that it indicates something is wrong. While the focus of this thread has become about the lack of specific information about construction, I think the more central problem is a lack of quality construction that will last.
For example, my wife and I spent a lot of time and effort purchasing a quality mattress less than 3 years ago. I'm a huge product researcher and have had a subscription to Consumer Reports for over 20 years. We bought a top of the line Sterns and Foster and spending a lot of time laying on mattresses.
For the last year we've been dealing with ever increasing depressions in the mattresses that are causing a lot of...

Thanks to all for your input. I was looking for the least complicated solution. I found a Verlo custom mattress store just a few minutes from my house and bought a 1" talalay latex layer to put atop our existing mattress. I have no idea what the ILD is. All their 1" layers of talalay latex comes in one ILD. It's what they custom make all their beds with, I figured I'd be fine. I really thought I'd be sleeping that weightless, dream-filled sleep and that I'd start a rapid recovery from my herniated disc with all the sleep I'd be getting. Well....it's 3:30 a.m. and here I am. i woke up after only 2 hours feeling very uncomfortable. Tossed and turned for another hour and a half and decided to just give up. I can't even tell you...

Hi everyone,
My first post here...
I think I've pretty much read this entire forum over the last week. Thanks a million, all of you, for all the fantastic information and advice. Saved me from buying an expensive pillow-top that I'm sure I would have lived to regret.
I originally tried out some beds at Sleep Country, thought I knew what I wanted. Did a little googling, discovered this site. Became overwhelmed and confused, bit of a case of information overload. :)
BUT, after mulling it all over I've decided what I want:
SO now, my conundrum. I have called all the local furniture places. Not a single one of them sells a "flippable"...

I originally tried out some beds at Sleep Country, thought I knew what I wanted. Did a little googling, discovered this site. Became overwhelmed and confused, bit of a case of information overload. :)
BUT, after mulling it all over I've decided what I want:
- a firm-as-possible, good quality spring mattress that will last (high coil count, low guage, no pillowtop, little topping as possible)
- topped with latex, maybe 1 or 2 inches.. not sure what I'll like best.
SO now, my conundrum. I have called all the local furniture places. Not a single one of them sells a "flippable"...
