Greeting mattress experts and lurkers, I am a once-a-decade mattress buyer in need of assistance. Can anyone provide input for the Serta Icomfort foam mattress line? Specifically, I'm interested in the Revolution model king size. My initial search led me towards the Tempurpdic Rhapsody. However, many reviews suggest Tempurpedic's sleep "hotter" than spring or other foam mattresses. My wife is furnace so I dare not bring a mattress home which amplifies that issue. So, my next focus was the Simmons ComforPedic. My wife laid on every model and said they were "too springy" compared to the Tempurpedic and the iComfort. So we are down to one option right now, the iComfort. What I'm asking for help with is advice and comparison. The iComfort line of Serta is very, very new and this is possibly why there is no data or opinions on the internet. My heart is not set on the Revolution for $2,000 and I am genuinely interested in hearing advice and comments even if that information leads away from iComfort completely. Thoughts? Much appreciated, |
I had an iComfort Revolution for 4 weeks, last July. I did switch to a think quilt after a couple days because I was much too hot under the top sheet and comforter. It's not very hot here in the SF Bay Area at night, I would say low 70s when going to bed, not exact #, but close. The Revolution was too soft for me and led to neck problems over a few weeks. Even with the thin quilt, I was still too hot sleeping on the bed. The Revolution was a total loss, I got duped by Sears, having done an exchange from S&F to get the iComfort (they said the 120 risk free trial would allow a return even after an exchange, yeah right), then after the iComfort wasn't working out, customer service over the phone laid out the policy .... no returns on any beds that were gotten from an exchange. I sold the iComfort twinXL on craiglist, all of 6 weeks old, for a whopping $175. Who the heck would pay more? Just wanted the set out of my house. I lost $1300 on the ordeal. I'll never buy another mattress from Sears, ever. Nor do I recommend anyone buying into their cheesy 30 day exchange / refund policy. Here we have real mattress stores that give 100 day, no questions asked returns or exchange, not both. Not that I like to return or exchange, but that's the kind of store I'll buy beds from here on out. This message was modified Feb 9, 2012 by slpngoc

I purchased the IComfort revolution on 2/20/12 and it was delivered on 2/21/12. I live in palm springs and its hot here..my hsband also sleeps "hot" THIS BED IS NOT HOT AT ALL. But what this bed is ... is THE WORST SMELLING BED EVER. It is now 2/26/12 and not only am i having trouble breathing but my vision is a little blurry, also an extreme headache. Apparently I fall in the "under 1 %" that has this problem. We bought this bed at banner mattress an I called to return it and the salseman said " you have to speak to the guy who sold it to you" REALLY??? I have been sleeping on the couch ..not fun. My whole bedroom smells, it terrible. On a side note however my husband recognizes the smell but does not have any "symptons". I'm sad because I love the comfort. Until tomorrow when "the guy who sold it to me" comes in! |
Hi... I have the I Comfort Prodigy and in my 5th week with it.. it did have a little bit of a smell when they brought it in so I opened my windows in the bedroom for 1/2 hour and then proceeded to put the mattress pad on and the sheets.. and it was completely gone. We had 2 free pillows delivered a few weeks after our purchase and they took appr. 4 days to even attempt to put a case on them.. but I must admit I love the pillows. I am NOT in love with my bed. I feel the I Comforts are very over priced and my purchase was on a defective return. I still can change it out, but the store doesn't have one other bed that I would even consider. I will live with it a few more months and then dump it in the guest room and move on to some other beast.. I feel you sink in too much and in the store most of the others were even softer. Two salemen told me not even to lay on two of the beds in this line as he said they are way too soft. I would love to hear how you are doing with this bed in another few weeks. I am not impressed at all, think its a big hype for this line because they can charge more especially the one I purchased as it is second to the highest priced one of the line. Too bad.... love the look of it and like not having to use a bed skirt.. but that's about it on this baby.. I did even mention to the salesmen after a couple of weeks they really shouldn't be touting this new line as one of their better beds in the store and under the Tempurpedics ( which are way too hot to sleep on).. but each time I was in the store they gave the customer a few minutes of wandering around and then led them to the I Comforts or Tempurpedics.. big comissions on these for them.. I am completely fed up with the entire mattress industry..such garbage out there for your $'s.... Good luck will check back to see how you made out.. Pleasant Dreams.! |
My wife and I purchased the iComfort Revolution and have slept on it for about two months now. And, we both loved the comfort and soft/firmness! I have a small back problem and often don't sleep throughout the night. Now, we both sleep soundly throughout the night. We also heard that the fixed frame was somewhat flimsy, so we went ahead and bought the adjustable base too. Wow, this base also has massager built in! Now, we can prop up our heads and feet in comfort while watching TV or reading a magazine. The base is pricey, but we felt it was worth the investment. |
Hi.. perhaps it is the differnce the fixed frame.. not sure but others that like these have also said they have the adjustable frame.. to us it was just one more thing that could go wrong and be an expensive fix if and when it happened.. but it did apeal to me as well. Glad to hear someone is having a good nights sleep.. I paid $3000 for mine.. had a 1600 credit off my return from a 2 year old bad latex bed.. and then they got me for 1500 more for the I Comfort Prodigy.. I was a fool to pay that and regret it every nite I sleep on this thing. Thing of it is if I return this my alternatives there are pretty much less in value and I will lose much money or have to pay more to get in a Tempupedic.. which I do not want.. This store doesn't carry all the manufacturers mattresses mostly Sealy/Serta and the Tempupedics.. when I say there was nothing on the floor to exchange for, mean it.. horrible value out there in the mattress industry. Thanks for your input... |
bishoparc, do you have an update for us? I am very close to your stats and would love to hear if its starting to soften up on you... |
Just wanted to share some insight on the IComfort. There is A LOT of questions/comments/concerns on here that I have information for, but I am sure I will miss some. First off, there are several levels of "firmness" with the Icomfort; Prodigy ("softess"), Savant (Revolution), Genius, and Insight ("firmest") The "firmness" level is all a matter of personal feel. Serta just list them by construction and height as to what is supposed to be "firmer" The Insight is listed as the "firmest" however general review is that the Genius sleeps much firmer. The Insight is the least expensive model of Icomforts and is designed as such. So, when testing/reviewing the Icomfort line, keep that in mind. Memory foam is also designed to soften with heat; wether it is body heat or room temperature or whatever, so a room kept at 78 degrees will house a "softer" memory foam than one kept at 68 degrees, regardless of model. Also, the "cooling gel" that is used in the Icomfort is designed to draw away your body heat, not give you an air-conditioned feel, so if you give off a lot of body heat, the gel will give you a cooler sleep. However, if you do not emit much body heat, you will not feel a lot of change. (and, any breathable mattress cover should work on the cooling memory foam beds--if it's not breathable or has layers or "toppers", no, you will not benefit from the "cool action") The Icomforts are the #1 memory foam mattress at the moment. They are a good bed, however, their are several models and what works for one may not work for others, so explore all models before you make a final decision! Also, they say it takes up to 28 days before you become accustomed to a new bed, so give it time. Find the stores that offer a 30 day comfort guarantee and take advantage of it. You should not need 3-6months to decide if you have the right mattress, but it will take more than a few days. And, before you purchase, take time to try the mattress out-lay on it for a while. (it is said it takes 3-5 minutes just for the memory foam to start reacting to your body heat and begin to soften) If need be, come back when the weather is different to see if the temperature change has changed the feel of the bed. (or, if the sales floor is climate controlled, ask the associate what the temp is held at and mimic this when you get the mattress home) As for price--DO YOUR RESEARCH!! Their are a lot of different prices out there. However, there is a "Serta Warehouse Distributor" out there that sells Serta mattresses, Icomfort included, for a very small fraction of most retail (even sale) prices! Also, pay close attention to the "Sale" gimmicks where as the discounted price "may not reflect actual retail price" (basically meaning, they jacked up the "original" price before the knocked off the sale %) And, know the name game! There are several models available from Serta, however, not as many different beds as one would think! When comparing mattresses at different stores, get the specifics---the sales associate should be able to tell you, or at the very least look up, the information on the construction on the mattress--where the layers are, what the layers are made of, etc... You will find, many have the same construction, sometimes it's just the material used in the covering that varies. This however, does not stop stores from selling the "same" mattress at higher prices! I know there are more points I wanted to make, however, I can't recall any of the comments at the moment. I'm sure you'll hear more from me soon! :)
