Trying to decide on which Tempur - Cloud or Rhapsody

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to say foremost I'm happy I've found this site before I've purchased a new mattress. The last couple weeks I've been researching Tempur and latex mattresses and have concluded that I'm going to purchase either of those. I've had too many bad experiences with Coil mattresses sagging and I find the latex or foam to be more supportative.

So far I've found latex to be a bit too stiff for me and my wife. We've tried several Tempurs and it seems the Rhapsody and the Cloud Supreme feels the best to us. The Cloud is the most comfortable, where the Rhapsody feels a bit stiff.

I am concerned with the longevity of the Cloud; I'm around 200lbs and question whether it'll hold up over time. If the Tempurs soften up a bit I could see maybe the Rhapsody is the one to choose. I currently have a bit of back pain only when I'm sleeping and just wake up but I suspect its from my current mattress as its sagging terribly. During the day I feel fine.

I'm looking for some advice on owner's experiences, both good and bad.

Also, Canadian friends: Do you have a place in mind to get the best price for a price match?

Thanks in advance.

Can't help you on the HD source as I haven't been in that market.  But here's a thought:  if you are a hiker/camper you can get through REI (USA) or MEC (CDN) those dense yellow sleeping pads that are tough as nails.   I share your concern that at 200 lb the Cloud Supreme could soften too much for you.  You never mentioned your wife's weight.  How long is your trial period?

Don't beat yourself up yet for going the retail route.  Although there are many success stories here on building mattresses the modular way, they have not been without considerable stress, strain and worry.  And it really is difficult to build your own memory foam mattress as compared to latex.

The wife is around 135 I believe, so I can see how the Cloud suits her better. Trial is for another month, so should be able to tell soon enough if its going to work.

Given what I have mentioned, do you think we're best to go with Rhapsody? I'd hate for wife to not like that one though. errgh!

I just don't know what to advise here - I'd hate to see your wife lose something that is working so well for her.  Maybe someone else here who has a Rhapsody could comment on how much, and how quickly they soften.  There's always the chance the CS may soften too much over time for your wife and a R would soften enough although the breaking in period would be tough on her.  That was why I suggested having a twin XL CS for her, and a twin XL Rhapsody for you, side by side.  But that is more expensive and there is the hassle of trying to make them the same height.  Have you talked to the store about that possibility and if they could give you a price break to do that?  I'm just out of ideas on this - sorry.

No worries I appreciate the advice though. If I knew I could find a HD layer somewhere for my side I'd just do that.

I think 1" of HD memory foam will be tough to find.  You could of course get 1" of firm latex.  Not sure if that will work though, and definitely will change the feel.

If you go for 2 twin beds, I would consider putting 1" of firm latex (or other firm foam) below the TP to even out the heights.  That wasy you do not change the feel of the TP very much.
